Oil in air intake
howsit guys yet another prob i found on my car
its a 1.8 cli 16v
i was busy changing the exhaust manifold , which was leaking and made a huge noise so i decide to take of the pipe leading to the air cleaner i found some oil in it not alot, the air filter had no oil in it could this be a sign ? engine is gettin warn or something small? also note the valve guides need replacing so im not sure if this all ties up
please help
thanks

Re: Oil in air intake
Are you talking about the breather pipe that comes off the top of the tappet cover to the air inlet?

Re: Oil in air intake
howsit
no not that one the one that comes off the mainfold i have attached a pic below of my engine and where i found the oil it was like a teaspoon of oil.
the inside of the manifold was dry didnt find oil in any other place, car still has enuf power , i normally drive 120 so i dont get the oil in that area

Re: Oil in air intake
worn valve guides will cause higher crankcase/head pressures which in turn means more some oil will be forced out via the breather pipe(the one that the arrow comes from actually) into the intake, if you get the guides and valve seals done, it should solve the prob...
the other cause is excessive sludge build up in higher mileage motors, also leads to higher crankcase pressures...

Re: Oil in air intake
200 000 is still a baby.
It could be as PoLonY says, but it can also be deceleration from high revs. If you ever take your foot off the accellerator when the engine rev is on the high side that too causes some oil to be sucked up from that breather pipe.
So it you do this kind of thing maybe it's just that...

Re: Oil in air intake
thanks again ,
@Rietbok - i taught the engine was packing up , i guess the engines are quiet hardy , i tend to keep a rev up when i change gears,i need to adjust to the clutch , still need to get used to the car so i think thats also one of the causes

Re: Oil in air intake
16v had the habbit of pushing oil into the air intake. So does most cars.
The breather was on the block and it used to get oil in there from the cranck churning it up.
Specially when you rev the car hard and oil level at max mark.
