Re: VW Polo Vivo 1.4 55KW - First tank fuel consumption- Nor
I have always filled my cars to the top, airlock en alles... And I have never seen a drop on the floor!!
The biggest reason for the airlock is that it helps in an accident. The airlock takes 13 litres (believe it or not) so if a full tank gets damaged in an accident the fuel needs to go somewhere.
Now with diesel it's not such a big risk but with 93 octane you are one spark away from disaster!!

EX-DOHCTOR wrote:Once the fuel light comes on there is 7L left in the tank, read your manual. I generally get around 80 - 100km's off that 7L.
So once the light comes on I know I have about a weeks worth of driving left (Note: for my drive to work).
I get anything between 500 - 650 km's a tank out of my 1.4i Trendline.
I generally wait till the last quarter tank(reserve) is used up before filling up again and then I can fill up to 50L into the tank. Good for another month
Sorry for hijack. But I think that mileage is a bit low for a full tank of 50l.
With my 1.8i polo, 50l driving in and around town i get up to 640km's before the reserve light even comes on.

So from 437km per tank to 650km per tank
Hate to say it BUT we told you sojoggiep wrote:Don't be worried.. My first tank on the polo and the Seat was both utterly crap as well.. I now regularly get well over 500km on a tank with my 2.0 and that is 99% driving in town sitting in traffic. I would say that the first 1-2000km I did not get great economy off my new cars after that it seemed to settle down and improved.

Amazing how much fuel consumption improves in a brand new car after a couple of tanks.

Ok, in my own Polo Vivo 1.4 63KW just recorded the mileage from my first full tank and it's an amazing 691km on 476.270l fuel at the coast with about 75% open road driving!
I'm seriously impressed.

1st tank on my 63kW Vivo gave me 720 km's, mostly town driving. I average about 700 km's to a tank.

Re: VW Polo Vivo 1.4 55KW - First tank fuel consumption- Nor
Hey guys interesting stuff
The first poster of the thread gets about 13km's to 1L. Good, but did think that a vivo should give better than that even 15km's to 1l(Don't ask
me why)
Anyway I am driving a 2005 velocity 1.4i and it gives me 10km's 1l constant does not matter how I drive.
What would this be.?
Also I think that the 1.6l petrol engine in our small cars like Toyota's,vw's etc is the most economical.
I even get better than the velo in my corsa bakkie which is a 1.6L and a 1998 model.

Both my 63kW Vivo and 1.4i Velo gave me around 700km/tank, works out to just under 7l/100km.

Does this really work??Neuk wrote:Engines do settle in after a while, but I generally find driving style to be the biggest contributor to fuel consumption, with the exception of something clearly broken or not running as it should I can get good consumption on my Polo TDi, but can't on my brother's as I am not used to driving a petrol besides my Golf...
...I would give it a few tanks of fuel and take it from there...
I just bought a polo Vivo 1.4 2016. My mileage is 24k, but from my calculations, I’m getting around 480km to a 45l tank... I think I should be getting around 600km atleast!
Any advice with this mate??
My driving is mainly in town and we’ll below 100km/h on average..
Thanx!

480km from a 45km tank sounds a bit much to me for a 1.4 Vivo but I have never driven one nor do I have any experience with them. A starting point would be to find out what others owners are getting in similar driving conditions and go from there. I am sure there are others on here with the same car or know of someone with the same car, but also check fuel use sites like Fuelly for comparison purposes.

Short distance syart stop town driving will never return great numbers. Around 10's are to be expected.

I see a few polo 9n 8v consumption figures here. The Vivo has the 1.4 16v engines from the new 6r polos. A
Anyways my contribution - on long journeys i get about 860 to about 55lt fuel on the 63kw vivo sedan. shoprter trips never get less than 720kms on a tank.
Consumption got a lot better for me after about 15k to 20k km
you can check the cost of owning a vivo thread for more info as well

Re: VW Polo Vivo 1.4 55KW - First tank fuel consumption- Normal?
Consumption numbers are always vwry diffucult to pin down.
There are three things which has a very heavy impact on whatbdifferent people will get.
1) total trip distance. When you start a car from cold it will be in cold enrichment mode. It take around at least 8km to get out of that.. If your trips aremalways under 8km your car will be a lot heavier than somebody that say drive 20 km to work.
2) trip type. Ie. If you drive 1km to get onto a highway and the rest of your 20 km trip is mostly highway you will see much better consumption than a guy doing 20km of stop start traffic lights every 600 m
3) driving style. Chilled small throttle opening lowish rpm shift style driving cinsumes a lot less fuel than a guy that does a 1/4 drag race at every single robot.
So unless those are known things consumption numbers comparisons are pretty meaningless.
