Velocity 1.6 not starting

Post by greenjustin »

hi, hope somebody can assists ?
i have a 2007 veleocity 1.6i, it does not want to start. as soon as i switch the ignition on and turn the key, the starter is turning and it sounds as if the engine is swinging as the rev counter does move, but engine refueses to start.
i suspect it could be a fuel pump not feeding the engine with fuel.

thanks in advance

Most common fault on those will be a broken internal return on the fuel rail. To test pull the clip out that holds the regulator on the end of the rail and pull the regulator out. Check the small centre pipe - if it is loose or broken off you have found the problem.

@UDC.i actually dont hear anything, now that i remember it normally makes slight buzzing sounds when the ignition is turned on.
fuel pump prime?does this sit in the fuel tank or engine bay, sorry but i am a dummy when it comes to mechanical faults i do not know of.

@panic mechanic.broken internal return on the fuel rail,if this was broken,To test pull the clip out that holds the regulator on the end of the rail and pull the regulator out. if the pipe is damaged or broken will it completely stop fuel from going into the engine?

Ok start at the basics, a engine needs air(compression), fuel and spark to work, have you got all three ??

the pump sits under the right rear door, maybe your relay or fuse is blown.
if your fuel rail is broken you will still get fuel, just not enough fuel pressure.

@UDC. just reading up on fuelpumps,i will check the relay first before i decide to invest in the fuel pump. i hope relay sits inside by the fusebox area or in the engine bay? correct?

not sure where the fuel pump relay sits on the velo, but should be at your fuse box.

Hey bud.
Dunno if this will help, but my golf also gave me trouble starting.
When you open your bonnet, on ur right hand side next to ur battery you will see two fuses. I think the one is 50Amp and the other 80Amp. I haven't quite figured it out, but I think the one controls things like speedometer cluster, and the other one allows your motor to start.
Take those two fuses out one at a time and clean them with electrical cleaner. Mine was dirty and my engine wouldn't start, turns over, but doesn't start, like it's not getting fuel.
Good luck

is that buzzing sound coming from you fuel pump, if so then it is potentially dangerous incase you where to meet in a accident with the car etc.....but it shouldnt be doing that, so check it up

The relay is behind the fuse box, up against the chassis. You'll need to get at it from underneath by the pedals. I had to take the bottom dash piece off to get to it. There should be two next to each other, both #53 relays and they're pretty tough to get out. AFAI can recall it was the rear most relay ?? But can't really remember..

Check the fuse first though - much easier...

Things to look for.

1.Check you getting spark and coil/ dizzy is working fine with no cracks on the coil. This can be done bu pulling the center Ht lead from your dizzy and holding it close to your cylinder head while starting engine. If that is ok check plugs.

2. Like panic said check fuel rail and that there is fuel running to the the rail ( pump working)

3. Check that your temp sender is working ok. ( had this happen to a velo twice, the ecu obviously doesn't get a temp reading from the motor and doesn't supply correct fuel to start.)

4. Lastly Computer box

5. Motor must also have compression.

I had the same Problem, my Velociti 2007 could not start, after following your suggestions, I found the problem, it was a Relay, Since they are two located behind the Fuse Box, I swapped them around and the car started, the Fuel Pump made the sound and it pushed the petrol to the Fuel Filter, Thank you very Much , your post really helped me.

One relay is for the fuel pump and the second relay is used for the wipers.

Check the usual suspects first.
Fuel pump, fuel pump and ignition relays, alarm(if you have), fuel rail, coil...
If you're in control, you're not going fast enough!
