Re: B20 conversion on a 1.4 velo
Those B20's are cheap though but the labour and added extras to make it work will ultimately become pricey. will be interesting to see though.
I've seen this conversion done in a '81 Mazda 323

Re: B20 conversion on a 1.4 velo
on that note what makes a engine spin in the direction it does ?ALRoN73 wrote:B series motor spins other way around so ffz box will give you 5 reverse gears and 1 forwardRourke wrote:its not a vw but i wonder
Those B20B Motors are pretty cheap R5900.00 R6000.00 and funny hey has 1 and a half to 2 years ago it was 3500.00 for this motor.i found 1 at a pawn shop for R2000.
I think if a mount can be maid up with a adapter plate for the vw gearbox with aftermarket management then maybe it could work .
It is assuming that u can mount a vw box to a honda engine.
people mound toyotas in microbuses carrevelles.(Adapterplate) Well im not clued up on what all goes into this but if it can work why not
also a ffz box runs out of steam so will it handle the honda seeing as a honda revs more too.
if the box and management and mount is sorted then the rest is basically as if you anyway giving attention to the motor . New exhaust people anyway do this for breathing and sound and performance. water pipes ect its anyway a good idea then you know you have new parts in anyway.
what do you guys think
if i think about it is it not the starter and the position of the starter?
if u using the vw box with vw starter then i dont see the problem.
If i think about it it will then just be the firing order that might need to be reset in the direction the motor spins.
Oh shuchs but what about the oil pump? will it work in anydirection? and water pump too?
Hey im a noob and my thinking is on a basic level not professional level but does it work this way?
cheers

B20's can't rev, polystyrene block from factory....
i had a itb B20vtec in my ballade, past 7k the sleeves cracked if you had no brace in it... and to make it last will cost you one kidney, one leg and half an arm...
since i went vw 9a turbo, no looking back

Re: B20 conversion on a 1.4 velo
specs on my block were:
eagle rods
wiseco 10.5:1
arp headstuds
typeR cams
vernier pulleys
42mm 4-2-1 header
63mm exhaust
dual intake and exhaust valve springs
toyota 43mm itb's
did 120wkw.... on a good day
only problem was the block... the b18 block was super strong coz the sleeves weren't siamesed....
b20 has super thin sleeves and the sleeves actually move under load and revs
but putting a jdm in a german is sacriledge....
sies!!!!!

Thanks,
Buy a honda, slap VW badge on it. Done.
Jokes aside
You basically need a whole B20 powered Honda and a rolling Citi shell. Cut and weld the shell to suit the Honda motor, gearbox and suspension. Transfer the wiring and merge the two harnesses. When the motor starts you are about halfway done.
Basic requirements for the build:
1. Above average professional level mechanic skills
2. Welding with MIG and TIG fabrication skills
3. A fully kitted fabrication workshop
4. A heap of cheatahs (Rand's preferably $)
5. Time in abundance.

Re: B20 conversion on a 1.4 velo
Can't use MCM as an example.
1st it's a done conversion as somebody already makes a subframe to suit both the motor and body.
2nd those boys had top notch specialists helping them
3rd it still took 2 months to complete with a fairly large budget thats R10 to AUS$1.
Anything can be done, but is it worth doing?
