Mk1 clattering noise from front right

Post by Timmeh87 »

Howsit guys. In a total noob when it comes to cars and im learning day by day. Busy with project golf at the moment. When I break the front right has a chattering sound sort of like someone sticking something into a fan, this is only when the car is moving and I apply breaks. Im not rolling in it so if i can isolate the problem and fix it that is first prize. Any ideas what the sound could be?

Have you checked your pads and disks? I would start there and then check things like lower control arm bushes, tie rod ends, top shock mounts, etc.

Problem solved. they for some reason sold me a car with no bolts holding the engine up at the gearbox side and the cam pullies side. there were two bolts that were broken and stuck in the block on the cam pully side, so the tensioner wheel ended up rubbing on a bracket.

How did that car pass roadworthy when you bought it?

Would be interesting to hear who "they" are that sold you the car. I'd be very worried if it is a dealer...
