Vw Golf 4 GTI (AGU)
Hi Guys
I own a Vw Golf 4 GTI. The research I've done is the car from factory comes with a K03 turbo. I do not have any software on the car as yet just other supporting breathing mods. I would like to know what is the maximum reliability power can I make with standard turbo before going to the K03s or K04-001 route.
Thanks in advance for your response...

Stock Ko3 and side mount cooler is basically just going to get u a stage 1 tune.
Going to need quite a few supporting mods to get even close to 200wkw.

Re: Vw Golf 4 GTI (AGU)
Stock everything, stage 1 software will get you to 120 to 130wkw.
Need more? Rule of thumb is R1000 per kw gain. So starting at a stage 1 with 120wkw and a 200wkw goal, budget R80k for engine and turbo mods. This will not cover chassis and drivetrain mods to support the engine. This is roughly 50% of what you spend on the engine. Probably more because COVID issues.
So realistically you are going to spend R150k (not including the purchase price of your MK4) and still have a car that's not as fast as an S3 or Mk7 GTi.
You could sell the MK4 and buy a Mk7 and still have change and get most of the way to your goal power figure.

Re: Vw Golf 4 GTI (AGU)
If he spends R150k on his mk4 he will most definitely be faster than mk7 gti.
For 200kw he wont need 80k, should come right under 50k.
Injectors, turbo, mani, wastegate, dictator, intercooler and pipes.

I think you haven't had mods done in the last year.saxo wrote:If he spends R150k on his mk4 he will most definitely be faster than mk7 gti.

Everything is twice what it cost 2 years ago. Thank the Pandemic.
If there are parts available the prices are senseless. I was phoning around for a mate that's building a turbo Citi, I was shocked at the increases for even the simple things.

I sell parts for modification so I know prices, if you buy top of the range like Garret turbo then you will spend a lot.

Re: Vw Golf 4 GTI (AGU)
The forgeturbo Ko3 hybrid stage 2 is basically a ko4.
That turbo will get u 200kw.
Still gonna need injectors, upgraded fuel pump, fmic, tip to name a few. All on stock ecu, can even run an ethenol mix.
Torque is a destroyer on a stock motor, but if u drive it properly u shouldn't have an issue.
Got a ko3s without supporting mods doing almost 190kw 400mm on pump fuel for the past 2 years, daily driven and no issues.

Re: Vw Golf 4 GTI (AGU)
Goodluck trying to find anybody willing to tune it, been through it all. The forge turbo is quite nice, the stage 1 is straight bolt on although it has a cast impella wheel, the stage 2 has a billet impella which is really strong, although you’d have to make a plan with the inlet as it’s 52mm instead of 48mm which can be quite a mission, a normal 90 degree elbow doesn’t really work either(trust me I’ve tried haha). If you do end up going with the ForgeTurbo stage 2, do yourself a favor and have somebody do a welded 90 bend, you’ll make your life so much easier, other than everything is straight bolt on, although with just the turbo and intake, don’t expect 200kw, I had an intake and the stage 2 turbo, bigger injectors and was making a solid 150 wheel kw. Finding the right tuner for it proves rather difficult as most people won’t tune a cable driven car, so you’re very limited in options, especially when you start doing things like the hybrid stage 2. Although if you do need I have a tune for it on hand if you go that route, that I don’t even mind helping with. I was doing 150wkw with a uprated fuel pump too, but car felt fun to drive. Anyways, if you need or want any help just let me know.
