Used Golf 7R advice

Post by Mass »

Hi all,

I'm strongly considering purchasing an early Golf 7R (2014 I think). I've searched through the forums but I can't seem to find much on them (which is probably a good thing I'd imagine).

Any common problems on that motor/gearbox combo. Any idea how much a haldex diff repair would be if it gave up ?

Thanks

I owned a 2015 7R for just over 2 years - Other than the normal service, I replaced a thermostat and water pump. Those were common items on a 7 though. Other than that i never had any issues.

The water pump is expensive in comparison to some cars, but is not ridiculous.

Expect to pay between R5k to R8k all in. The difference in price is in case you opt for genuine parts or aftermarket.

Use an RMI workshop if you get it done for the peace of mind of a warranty on workmanship.

One other thing to check before purchasing the car is whether the timing chain tensioner upgrade has been done, we had an A3 1.8TFSi in last month that bent valves. Tensioner failure was the verdict. The problem is fairly well documented.

Thanks. Eventually purchased a 2014 with a full VW motorplan so that's one less worry
