Howsit guys, need some assistance with my Golf 6 GTI.
The car is fine when starting and driving, once the car is warmed up to optimum temperature the car accelerates on its own whenever I come to a stop and put the car in neutral this also happens when the clutch is being pressed in traffic.
Car revs to 2000 rpm or even 3000 rpm sometimes. it does it for a few seconds about 5 or so then goes back down. It will then start again.
I have taken the car for a smoke test I found boost leaks in the breather pipe going to the PVC , the boost tap and the map sensor. All of these have been rectified. However the car is still doing it.
The PVC has also been replaced however no joy there. I then took the car for an inspection and was told its the throttle body and that it could have a crack on it.
took out the throttle body to find a screw missing other than that everything looks good, cleaned the throttle body put new set of screws. Aligned the throttle body and tried again. Still no joy.
when i remove the maf sensor car runs correctly with no issues.
i'm not sure what else to do and really need some help to diagnose and fix this issue.
please help guys.
thank you

Re: VW Mk6 GTI surging idle
Sounds like MAF is dead.
Mines did that surging thing when taking off. Still does. The only way to rectify is to put a new MAF or drive without one. It should also throw a code something like MAF signal too low.
Could also be a stuck open PCV or intake leak somewhere but I'm sure it was all tested and sealed correctly.

Re: VW Mk6 GTI surging idle
Leak in air intake system.
Check for any leaks after the MAF. Maybe the plastic intake or pipework or throttle body.
That will cause irregular idling.
