Golf 6 GTi Coolant leaking

Post by deon rupnarain »

Sup guys,
Trust all is well .

As per subject line , I found the culprit where the coolant is leaking (attached )

Can I weld that pipe(rusted spot on the pipe) - or does anyone here have one that i can purchase ?

Thanks guysImageImage

Is your coolant brown? Is the inside of your pipe rusty too?

If not, should be fine welded. Sand, remove all rust, make a nice V pattern and weld. Buy a can of black spray paint and some rust converter, apply rust converter then spray paint it black.

Check other metal coolant lines, find rust spots, sand and put rust converter. This also goes for anything else on the car.

Hey buddy,

Coolant is like a greenish color...similar to that inside the coolant bottle.

Sounds like a bit of work, can you refer me to someone who does this aluminum welding?

I'm also going yo check goldwagen on the price of this pipe if the cost vs welding would be cheaper.

Thanks for the helpful information, always appreciated.

Better to replace pipe, once rusted through and you weld, next time will leak on another spot

Hey bud.

Green coolant is a NO NO.

As it's corrosive on aluminium.

Change immediately to G13 coolant and distilled water before any serious damage occurs.

Also, the pipe doesn't look like aluminium.

Mines is steel and aluminium won't rust like that.

Replace the pipe with a new one from Goldwagen.
It will be cheaper than having it welded or repaired.
It is a steel pipe, not aluminium.

And...... if it that badly rusted, chances are very high it will fail at other spots due to rusting through after it has been repaired.
Reolace it with a new one and be done with it.

Great man. also remember to put radiator flush as well before you empty your coolant, just to make sure everything is clean.
