Re: Change engine
It will work out cheaper to sell your car and buy a TSI.

Re: Change engine
You will need the TSI engine (seen them sell for between 15 and 30K at engine places).
Then you will need the ECU, wiring loom, etc to make the TSI motor run. That would most likely be as expensive as the motor.
The more electronic savvy guys here will probably pitch in with more info, but it is NOT a simple case of swopping the engines.

Re: Change engine
Not to mention that it will need the correct gearbox and clutch assembly. This will probably affect the driveshafts as well as the steering knuckles etc. adding massively to the costs involved.Jetta2 wrote:You will need the TSI engine (seen them sell for between 15 and 30K at engine places).

Another question is which TSI are you after?
1.2 TSi from the Polo, 1.4 TSi from the golf 5/6, finally the 2.0 TSI from the later mk6/7 cars? All these engines in their stock form have some sort of issue related to oil consumption and there are some fixes but all cost big money.
So I will go back and support the first reply and say you should simply trade in your Polo for the car you want.

Re: Change engine
Upgrade as in some sort of performance upgrade?
To be honest, that will be a waste of money.
There is very little that can be done for any kind of decent performance increase.
You can easily spend R30K doing things like a branch and exhaust (low single digit power increase), cylinder head flowing and port matching (also minimal gains), air filter (same), custom ECU tuning (same), and at the end of all that you will still be dissappointed at the performance.
Please don't believe the claims from exhaust/filter/software places...... it is all just marketing BS.
