Pistons advice PGTI 1.4 tsi

Post by kingozzi »

Hello vdub Fam. I was doing head work on my polo 6R GTI(1.4).
Turns out I also need new pistons. The car is not running crazy power, just 168kw on the flywheel..now I dont want forged coz I'm not planning on making more power.. now I dont want OEM also coz they are prone to failure.

Question.
Which aftermarket pistons are good enough?
NB no forged pistons please

Thanks yall

Most aftermarket pistons that are decent to high quality will most likely be forged for that motor.

Semi Forge Mahle pistons will do the trick - actually OEM pistons.

Your OEM pistons wasn't prone to failure , detonation caused it to fail as those are high compression motors + SA pump fuel = kaboom.

I would go lower compression pistons and add more boost instead

The twincharged motors are fairly stressed out the box. Even stock motors have reported issues with the ring lands cracking.

Any reason for not going forged? That's probably the only way to solve the issue completely.

I'm sitting with the same situation and my warranty don't cover detonation. And my car is bone stock

You correct , one of the users ,that owned a twin charge engine, on the forum looked into this issue , they checked the car for mechanical faults and proceeded to log the car while on stock map, logs revealed that the motor was running lean , car was remapped and AFR's improved ,
