IC 1.8 20VT Gearbox part issue!

Post by SoDub »

Ello folks!

My Cupra has been in the hospital, diagnosed with a broken tooth off my first gear. Car has always had a bit of a whiney first gear
which is quite common but it started to get much louder of late and had a light ticking sound between 2000-3000rpm now and again.

Tooth did some damage to other bits in the box so I opted to have it all sorted at once. Refreshed Box is 90% complete - missing one part to get it back in my cab - diff on current box is a 3.6 and they can only find a 3.1 or 3.9. I don't want the car's gearing to be altered from stock - don't want to do 130 in 2nd gear and don't want it to be at 3500 revs at 120kph.

Anyone have any leads on where one would find one of these? :violin:

Maybe gonna have to settle for one out of a used sportline box, probably much easier to find?
It is an ingenius solution to a problem that should have never existed in the 1st place...

1.8t 20v uses a 5 speed box, so Polo 9n GTi box could work.

Same box for sure as the code on mine is JDB. Located a complete box at an Engine/Gearbox importer. Guys had sourced 90% of the parts for a rebuild but this will prove way more cost effective - can open it up and refresh what needs refreshing too on this.

Low mileage import box went in this week(oil drained out of it and refilled with fresh OEM spec, old oil was clean clean and no iron filings in it either) - holding thumbs I got the good lucky packet :D

Hopefully everything works out and you can enjoy the car again.

Picked the car up today and it seems it might be a "low mileage" box. Crisp and quiet! Holding thumbs it stays like this!
