It's the little things that make them run right. Anybody can slap a basic bottom end together. that is the easy bit. It's all the little things that makes these builds a success or not.

Where did you find a golf 3 made in 2005. they stopped making them in 2000.
The up to 2000 model will be quite happy with a good 20W50 like shell HX3. For your model it might be best to consult the owners manual.

I recall seeing Golf GTX's being built on the VW assembly line in Uitenhage in the early 2000's, but they were Golf 5's built for export. Some of them did land up in SA for some reason.

If the number plate recess in the back bumper is of the narrower type (i.e. more square shape than SA spec), this might be one of those. If I recall correctly, these cars were running 2.0 FSi normally aspirated engines in manual and automatic configurations.

As Panic said, rather play safe consult the owners manual. Alternatively post pictures of the car and it's engine bay, that would also be of assistance.

It's a 2005 Golf 5 GTX
It has the 2.0L GTI turbo engine (Standard, not modified)
They were a limited edition in Japan that I bought in Botswana

It unfortunately does not have an owners manual, and the only one I can find online is in Japanese :-)

Yup, it has a square rear numberplate - would be ironic if it was built here!

@ Duza - Chances are fairly certain that your car was produced in SA. My uncle was production sequencer in the VWSA plant and I was taken on a one on one tour through the plant and remember asking him about the Golf 5 GTX's. I recall that Japan was one of the markets mentioned.

Regarding info, you will probably need to work with a owners manual for a 2.0 FSi and a GTi and combine info, assuming that you can find such manuals locally. The GTX spec was relatively generous if I recall, so probably FSi for interior details and GTi for engine details.

Per your original post, can you perhaps check the engine number, usually the first 3 alphabetical digits? It should be a fairly generic Volkswagen 2.0 turbo engine (i.e. BWA), which should make a recommendation regarding engine oil a bit easier.

Thanks for the info
The Engine Number starts with AXX, so might not be one made here...

Axx is the very first series engines for golf5. Lots of them in Sa.
Good anything in 5w30 or 5w40 will work.
I use shell helix ultra. Not sure what you will find where you are.
But you can scratch on the net what is recommended for golf5 with AXX or BWA - essentially the same thing.
