S3 8L - Possible gearbox leak

Post by P1LAYA-ZN »

Good day gents,

So i have noticed a patch of oil on my tiles in my garage, under the gearbox and noticed its seems oily and wet underneath on the gearbox side.
It seems to be a very slow leak.
Any idea what are the common culprits here and is it a costly fix ?
Does the box have to come out ?
And are there any suitable places in Durban that can attend to this ?

Thanks,

It all depends where the leak is coming from, could be the gearbox seal, rear main seal, could even be a leak from somewhere else that ran down the gearbox and then dripped onto the floor.. Unfortunately it would be hard to say what your problem is without putting the car up and checking it properly.. You will have to take it to someone to check and advise you.

You are going to have to follow the oil to see where it comes from. If it is gearbox oil then try not to drive the car as low oil is a quick way to kill a box.
But I would look at the half moon seal under the vvt tensioner on the head. Thats a common leak point on those motors.
