Mkv Gti cold start truck sound

Post by Avery01 »

Good day, was hoping someone can help with this issue I’m experiencing.

My car is currently just under a 190k on clock but my car is making a truck noise almost like there is no oil in the car.

At cold start it makes a rattle sound almost like it’s metal on metal and then a few seconds it turns into a whinny noise, this all started happened when I through in the wrong oil and my car showed and oil light. I changed it from the incorrect oil, cleaning the oil pan. New filter and new oil the proper oil.

But ever since I through in the incorrect oil, under load I get oil light and my car sounds heavy metal on metal on a cold start.

Any clue what that could be???

Stand to be corrected but sounds like ur sensor might be faulty or dirty ...could some1 help out with a location where the sensor is plz ... if ur sensor is fine then ur oil pump is on its way out ...how long did u drive the car with the incorrect oil ? Driving for a short amount of time won't cause that amount of damage ...ive seen guys doing 40k without servicing their vehicle and it still runs fine lol id say clean or change the sensor 1st if no luck then have ur oil pump looked at

I ran with the incorrect oil for about +-300kms, I will mention that I drove hard in that time with the car. Which was the first time I experienced the oil light issue. I hope it’s not the oil pump though because that’s like R20k besides the labor part lol. When I changed the oil to the correct one. Cleaned everything, changed the oil, drove for like 500kms and then tried the hard driving and I experience the light but after that I maybe start driving slow like a normal person then the light goes off and everything goes back to normal. It’s like I only experience issues when I hammer the car but if I’m driving eco then she is a dream. Besides the obvious truck sound in the morning after the incorrect old part.

Lol those guys are lucky to be able to drive there car like that. I never done that though which is sad.

I personally also drive a mk5 gti and prioritise a 15k full service including plugs and cam follower even if they still ok ...get a proper Mech to check the car up ...theres a mod that the guys do I think they use a mk4 gti oil pump or some other vw oil pump it costs a fraction of the price and is very simple to do "I read and heard " of a few guys who done it but don't know any1 personally...maybe pm panic mechanic he should have more accurate information and advice on how to trouble these issues

noises are almost impossible to diagnose remotely. You might have a damaged bearing or it could simply be a lifter. Get somebody experienced to listen to it.

Thank panic, I will check it out here by a vw specialist. I’m assuming he is though cause he only works on Audi and vw...

I will have to check it out... I hope it’s nothing serious or anything.

By the way, could it be something else though, if my car is on a incline but with the engine facing down, then it sounds soft no rattle or sounds from the engine.

Hi usually timing chains make a noise when you start up, have you ever changed the chain, if you do have to change it you will have to replace the guides and tensioner but not sure if the chain will cause the oil light issues but the noise could be coming from the chain, they stretch with age and wear out, hope this info helps.
