Mk7 Gti Hood Insulation Worries

Post by James Christians_Nam »

Hey Guys,

I need some help. I drive a 2014 Mk7 Gti. The cloth thing on the inside of the my engine bay looks like crap. I removed it and now Im worried the hood's paint will get damaged by the heat coming from the engine bay. I would love to replace it but VW (In Namibia) is charging me about 1800 for a replacement unit. This is just crazy expensive.

Will the hood's paint be okay with all the heat generated. I was surprised when I noticed how much heat the Mk7 Gti produces after a trip home from work and vice versa...

Thanks.

Pretty sure it will be fine but I don't have any science behind my opinion.

What I do know is that R1800 is a lot less than the price of a new OEM bonnet :-)

It is a sound absorber, not a heat shield.
Leave it off, nothing will happen to the bonnet or the paint.
