G7GTI shock absorbers

Post by Williaml »

Why is it such a hassle to get shocks for this car?
My 2014 G7GTI is now on 123 000km. My rear shocks are klaar. I'm looking for standard replacement shocks. Phoning around, and hearing all the time "it's not on the list". WTF.
Claremont Fitment Centre now phoning around, will hopefully have a price for me tomorrow. Claremont Goldwagen also clueless- "there's 2 different kinds of Bilstein shocks" and not sure which one...
Anybody else needed shocks for a GTI7?

Reminds me of buying parts at a scrap yard.

New idea to build a system that can reference car parts by VIN

Often a vin search will resolve in more than one possible installed part.
For instance that same golf could have been fittted with a regular shock and a magnetic shock depending on what options were taken originally.
If the parts guy is too thick to reslove that and the owner does not know either then often the only way it to go there with a sample.
For instance on a 2007 audi A4 B7 3l tdi if you do a vin search for the front brake disc it literally brings up 3 possible part numbers. Literally only by taking a sample could we resolve that one.
So it's not always the perfect answer either.

The quotes I got from Goldwagen for rear shocks:
Std (not sure of make): R1298 each
Bilstein B8: R2600 each

So Bilstein double the price. Does anybody have experience with this make? How big is the difference in ride quality (firmness, handling)?
(Obviously I would have to buy front + rear)

Thanks for all the advice.
I got Bilstein B4 from Goldwagen. This is the OEM equivalent, not the sports shocks.
