MK7 R Downpipe Questions

Post by Luctor »

I have a catless downpipe from Powerflow. Loving it. It's loud. Like very loud. I haven't heard it from the outside, but driving at slow speeds with the rear windows down through walled streets it's loud. Even in standard D mode. S mode under load it actually sounds like I have a full system (with the windows down). It's a helluva lot louder than stock.

Windows closed music on, I can still hear it but only slightly. I can definitely feel it though- it's quite bassy. I'm loving it to be honest. But today I smelled exhaust fumes for a while after startup. And I started getting a little worried...

Questions:

- How loud should a DP make my car? Inside and outside?
- What are the symptoms of exhaust leak?

Stock MK7 R

All the R drivers I know have full exhaust systems, so I've never heard another one with just a DP in person. From videos I've watched it seems they can make the cars quite a bit louder. I'm just worried I have a leak, because it's louder than what I was expecting.

Ya, obviously, I can only make it on Monday though. Was hoping someone might have experience in the matter.

I'll take the bait and answer your inane question because either you're stupid as **** or playing dumb really well. Some advice on how much of a risk it is to continue driving if they do suspect a leak, for instance. Other things to look for/listen for to confirm the leak.

And as stated in the OP: How loud should a DP be.

Apologies for using this forum to seek the advice of others. Maybe I should be using it to make sarcastic replies to people posting for help.

Go troll somewhere else bud.

No a downpipe usually is not that loud. But sounds/ noise is very subjective without hearing it so most of us avoid answering those kind of questions.
