It happened - Mechatronics things

Post by Rubbin&dubbin »

So yesterday I got the dreaded gearbox lights flashing, car is stuck on 1st gear, not changing to any other gears.

Lucky i was close to home so i drove slowly and parked it off. Had a look online, did a re-calibration (hold the accelerator pedal down with ignition on and rub your tummy while singing kumbaya) that didnt help.

This morning i call a tow truck to take the car to a gearbox place, while waiting, i start the car, eish its perfect, no flashing lights gears engaging. all is good. deceide to cancel the towtruck, and drive to the gearbox place thinking maybe i just need to do a box service.

Drove around 15km's, car perfect. 300m from the gearbox place it happens again. Stuck in 1st.

Get to the place they say have to strip and quote but im looking at 25k or so to repair.

I would have loved to take it to somewhere like Geartronix for peace of mind but im based in PMB.

Anyone have any thoughts on this? if the mechatronics are gone it should either work or not?

Place the car on a rollback and send it to Geartronix, you won't regret it.

Eish
25k, are there no alternatives really?
I Wonder how much it would cost to send down using someone like Panic to collect and drop off your car at Geartronix.

Ya, i still have to think about what im going to do.

Problem is i spend all that cash on the car, considering what its worth, will pumping 30 odd k to fix, is it worth it?

SO i need some advice here from the guys in the know.

if i leave the car for a couple hours it works as normal, can drive around 15 km or so, then I noticed that there is a leak around the gearbox filter area this morning.

So the question is, if the Mechatronics unit is busted shouldnt it not work at all and not work intermittently. My thinking is when the box heats up with the low oil the box goes into protection mode because the oil level is low.

Thoughts?

So drain all of it, remember to take the spout out. Then put 4.5 litres in and it should be ok if that was the issue.

I think I’ll do that and see. Is plugging it into vagcom compulsory. I’m probably going to do the top fill. I know it will be slow but I don’t have the pump till thingy

No need for vagcom to drain and fill
Pit 40 minutes aside for top fill.
