4th and 6th gear making a noise mk6 golf gti manual

Hi guys, new to the forum

I'm having trouble finding info on gearbox noises on a mk6 gti manual, searched the forum for a while but couldn't find anything, I'm interested in purchasing a used 2012 mk6 gti manual but the owner says it's making a noise in 4th and 6th gear only and I'm not sure what that could be or what it would cost to fix. Any ideas? It's only got +- 41000km on it so was a little concerned as to what it could be. Any help would be greatly appreciated;) This will be my first gti so I'm really excited!

Also, is there anything in particular I should look out for when buying a used mk5/ mk6 gti?

Gearbox stuffed at 41000km's I would be wary of buying that car seriously. If you keen to go ahead, get a price on a new gearbox with installation then subtract from asking price and subtract a little more for any costs you don't yet no about and see if the current owner accepts.

The mileage is really low, not impossible but unlikely. Full dealer service history? should have about 5 or 6 services listed in the service book, no service book walk away

Ok awesome, thanks very much for the advice, maybe I should just move along with this one, the owner is advetising for a good R30k below the others of the same year but if the gearbox is messed then what are the chances the engine is going to be 100%.

Not sure on service history, not listed in the ad, will ask but maybe I’m wasting my time. Thanks very much for the advice;)

What could cause it to make a noise in only those 2 gears though? Surely if it was driven hard the first couple of gears would be making a noise as those take the most abuse.

Low/old gearbox oil? probably still original oil since the car came of the factory

Mk6 Manual gearbox didn't really have issues.

that would have been my first question or phone a vw dealership to verify/check the service history
