2010 Mk6 GTI DSG - Overheating water coolant issues

Post by Prioste07 »

Hey Gents,

Is this common on the Mk6 GTI DSG. My car just all of a sudden has an overheating issue. Weird thing is when i drive it in normal mode its all good, as soon as i put it into sports mode and whack it for a few min its over heats and i have to pull over and let it cool down. The water inside the coolant bottle is even boiling and deceases and increases...water goes up and down. So im not sure what it is. Water pump or thermostat.

Does this sound serious?
Please assist.

Thanks

Hi

That sounds a lot like a stuck thermostat which would cause the hot water from the block not to reach the radiator.

When next it happens try to feel the radiator hoses for temperature. If one one the hoses does not feel much colder than the other I would suspect the thermostat.

When you do a lot of stop start driving where the car stands at afle for long periods, does the heat gauge move up?

Yes common issue. Change the pump and thermostat.
We have also changed a fair amount of Radiators due to leaks.
