20V Turbo Build Advice

Post by Brat Boy »

Hi Guys

Car Polo Cassic (6N) 1.8 8V 2002 Model

Please can you supply abit of advice.

I am going to be using my 1.8 8v block from my Polo classic, I am going to to be changing the pistons and rods to accommodate the 20V head. I also know that there is 3 ports I need to block of on the head to make it work with the block.

I am getting the head and the turbo (K03).

What I need to know is where do I tap for a oil feed for the Turbo as well as if I want to do 180/190kw on wheels what do I need get as in rods and pistons.
Also what other parts and stuff do I need? (below list of stuff I know I need to get or already have)

20VT Head
K03 Turbo
Pistons (what make?)
Rods (what make?)
Gasket Set
FM Intercooler
Boost Pipes
Downpipe
DV

Please tel me if I missing anything from the list

Kind Regards
Brat Boy

uhm 180/190 WHEEL kw with a K03. good luck with that.
Stock rods is fine. Get pistons from an S3 of those years.

Yeah. That power out of a K03 is a tall order.

Oil feed can be taken form the oil filter housing. You need to accommodate a large oil drain as well on the Sump.
You will also need water supply. The 06A blocks have this but you will need to make another plan.

You will also need to look at fueling. Stock pump might be an issue
A management system. Get something that can control the N75 valve or get a stand-alone boost controller.

Water supply you can get from a heater supply cut one of them and divert it through the turbo.
Quite frankly unless you got the stuff for free it's actually cheaper to just buy a complete 20vt motor than to build one yourself.

That sort of power on a k03 wont happen on 95.
At altitude a k03s will max out around 150wkw, thats with the oem management and WMI. The same setup on Dictator would probably get 130wkw.

The S3 pistons that panic mentioned have a 20mm wristpin so 8v rods will work fine for your power goals. I would possibly look at a decent spec k03 hybrid or t28 for your power goal.

Hi Panic

The pistons I will get for free as well as the turbo, the only thing that I am going to pay for is the head. Thanks for the info on the water supply will keep that in mind. I priced the 20v Turbo motor they selling for R14900. The head is costing me R3500. If I get the complete motor I will have also get the car re registered, I am not up for that.

So in a financial sense this option works out cheaper plus I will be doing all the labour except for the wiring aspect of the management.

Again Panic thanks for the advice

That is also a option of a proper specced K03 hybrid, the turbo I will get for free I just need to do the mods to it

You looking at around 4500zar for a "good" chinese turbo which will work perfectly if you dont boost more than 1.0bar every day all day.

Try Mr Turbo for quotes.

You don't re-register a car for another engine. you just change the detail on the registration form but yes it is somewhat of a schlep.
Datadot, police clearance, registration department.

@Panic
As the build goes along I am sure you will give me more advice on best methods so I look forward to it.
The data dot and police clearance is the annoying part
