S3 8L - Steering Angle Sensor (G85)

Post by P1LAYA-ZN »

Good day gents,

My traction Control light on the Dash is on and after scanning with my Vag Xtool 401 I pick up this fault.
It reads as follows :

00778 - Steering angle Sensor (G85) - No or Incorrect setting.

What is the Steering angle sensor responsible for and what would this defect cause ?

How do I get to the root of the problem ?

Could it be an adaptation, wheel speed sensor, etc ?

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks,

Still looking for someone who has done, or knows how to do this adaptation, before I go looking for this G85 sensor to replace.
I tried a few places so far, and advice I was given is to change the sensor although they didn't know how to do the adaptation.
I would like to try the adaptation first.
Any ideas.

Hi, I had the same problem and i fixed it. Before you do anything you need to make sure that the angle is on +- zero degrees and the wheels are straight. Most of the time is the wheel alignment guys who are lazy to adjust the wheels straight and they take out the steering wheel to get an alignment straight. It will cost you +- 7k from the dealer for a new part. Good luck. Thanks.

How did you fix it, did you do an adaptation or did you get the Sensor ?

Nope, was advised by someone to start the car and turn full lock left then right again for five times, and he said it should calibrate.
I tried it, and nothing.
Didn't work.

Definitely need someone with the cable and software to attempt this.
Took it to Reputable company in Springfield (Durban) and was advised to change the Sensor, and this without doing the adaptation first.
Will be great If there is someone in Durban willing to assist.
