I have the same issue on start up each time, rrr for a while and then it stops, mine is a bit load as you stated as well.

I am not sure if this is lifter related or cam chain/tensioner related. Someone here mentioned, "could be warning signs of failing oil pump" (which i want to check the pickup this weekend). Tensioner and chain from agents - R2500. Lifter - R180 each

Then again, Car now has 305000 kms on the clock.

What is the kms on your car?

don't guess . If you thin there is oil pressure issues attach a physical gauge and look.
To change all the lifters and tensioner and chain is about R3800 in parts.
To rebuild the engine because the oil pump failed is in excess of R50k.
Don't guess. Make sure.

Although a gauge will be most accurate, will this work as well:

1. Hold down "ECON", and press the "up-vent" button (next to recirculation). Both temperature displays will read 00 or 00'0, and you can release the buttons once they do.
2. Twist the LEFT temperature knob until the display above reads 19’0.
3. Twist the FAN knob until the left temperature display reads 19’4 (like 19.4)

Is the preferred pressure between 3 and 5 on idle and driving and not exceed say 6 at higher rpm?
