1.8T stage 1 Plugs

Post by P1LAYA-ZN »

Good day gents,

Which would be the preferred plugs for my car ?
I replaced plugs recently from the stock BKUR6 to the BK7's gapped @ 0.7mm and experiencing alot of low down misfires when car is cold, but nothing under boost. I've read that chipped cars should use the 1 colder range but should I move back to the stock 1s ?
Do you need more mods and boost, maybe stage 2 map to use the colder range ?

I used NGK Iridium, BCPR7EIX Plugs on my 1.8T (I think that is the code...could also be BKR7EIX) but the standard plug gap (0.7mm I think) and they worked well on Stock, Stage 1 and Stage 2.

Check your Coil Packs are not faulty, this is a common 1.8T problem.

Most people on stage 1 stick with stock plugs (NGK Platinum PFR6Q).
Also if you are not comfortable with those there is also:

NGK BCPR7ES (Copper plug)
NGK BCPR7EIX (Iridium Plug)

All these are normally gaped to 0.7mm

Ok, will try reducing the gap from 0.7mm, if all fails, will go pack to the stock plug.

Thanks.

Honestly there is no good reason to run a colder plug. The engine was designed for that and even with upped boost you don't need a colder plug on stage 1 tunes. All you are doing is killing plug life.
