Re: Golf 5 GTI Oil pump conversion
I was using the castrol oil full synthetic 5w 40, but the problem remains, now I’m using the motorcraft oil 5w30.
If it is the oil pump, anyone in Cape Town that can do the 1.8T oil pump conversion?

The mileage is almost 190k I think I’m 2000 short.
I’m seriously lost on what’s happening with my car. I spent a lot of money fixing the turbo and upgrading to still have the same problem basically.. because when it happened the first time my mechanic told me my turbo was going because it had a ring sound. Not sure if that was true but I wasn’t any wiser.

Re: Golf 5 GTI Oil pump conversion
Try a decent oil like shell helix ultra 10w40 and see. Many many golf5 with oil pressure issues sadly.

Re: Golf 5 GTI Oil pump conversion
Okay so you saying I should try a thicker oil and see what happens.
Also when I start her on a cold start she makes a wine sound from the front of the engine, I thought it was the cam belt but the sound isn’t coming from the side but I front. Like by the oil filter... I changed the oil filter but sadly the sound still there.
Do you know of anyone in Cape Town that does the conversion should it be the oil pump

Yoh! What made you purchase a car like that? Well now I’m thinking of selling my car if I can’t find away to sort the problem out as I wanted to actually tune her some more.

Re: Golf 5 GTI Oil pump conversion
The golf 6 R has the golf 5 GTI motor. Seller seemed legit but as time goes by have my doubts. It was in a front collision so who knows what was done to it

Re: Golf 5 GTI Oil pump conversion
Sorry to hear bro, well I hope we get this oil pump business sorted. Cause I have big plans for my golf 5 Gti... if it means I need to spend R22k on a oil pump which I don’t want to. Then I have no choice.

Re: Golf 5 GTI Oil pump conversion
Golf 6 R had the same motor as S3 of those years so basically CDL engine code. Externally it is identical to the golf5 motor.
sorry no don't know who in cape town can do that pump conversion. Also I'm not saying just use a thicker oil. Use a decent oil.....
Like shell or liqui moly or motul.

Re: Golf 5 GTI Oil pump conversion
I got the oil pressure switch changed and the light has not come on have driven like 200km since changing. Not sure now if the switch was the problem and replacing it has fixed the problem or if the switch has been totally disconnected and not sending low oil pressure reading
Any idea how to test this?

Re: Golf 5 GTI Oil pump conversion
My mk5 gti also had an oil pressure issues once after servicing it. Thought it might be oil pump but read on a forum overseas that sometimes when we fill oil to the max line on the dip stick it gives oil pressure issues.
So maybe try drain some oil and keep it between the max and min lines on your dipstick. (Just make sure it never dips below the minimum line so do oil check every day)
But anyway that did the trick for me. Never had oil pressure issues since then

Re: Golf 5 GTI Oil pump conversion
Radrob, thanks for that buddy, I did that and everything is working fine even under load.... now I can officially continue with tuning again and finish everything off. Quick question any idea where I can get a turbo vent gauge?

Re: Golf 5 GTI Oil pump conversion
Modified to a mk 4 pump this weekend on the mk 5. The most time consuming is stripping all the stuff off. In my case i had to replace the intake and exhaust cam as well because of low oil pressure in the head. There was still enough pressure in the bottom end so no damage there. I must add that Its not a difficult mod at all, just keep in mind where all the pieces go when reassembling. This is the first pump change after 340K kms and first opening of the motor.

Re: Golf 5 GTI Oil pump conversion
I actually managed to get a guy in Cape Town that had all the parts, I’m just a little unsure about the drill and where to get the tap in stuff after the drilling, but other than that. I have the 1.9 tdi sprocket chain and tensioner and the oil cover. All I need is the 1.9 tdi oil pump drill bit for the tab in and then I’m sorted and ready to go.

Re: Golf 5 GTI Oil pump conversion
Hi Panic, On this one is the oil readings on the dip stick going to be accurate?panic-mechanic wrote: ↑Fri Jan 12, 2018 7:18 am Use the same filter housing. Yes capacity goes to 6.5l from 5.
As i filled the car up to the correct about of oil but the dip stick shows min - possibly due to the capacity changing of the 1.8t pump.
Is there any way to correct this?
Do i just fill in extra 1.5 litres to accommodate the extra 6.5 litres increase in capacity

Re: Golf 5 GTI Oil pump conversion
Hi Wolfburger, that’s correct bro. I did the conversation on my car and the difference only appears when you go over 5 liters on oil. So 6,5 would be the amount you should throw in if your want the dip stick to show full/max
