Hi guys, I'm Tas
I have a Golf 1.4 tsi 2009 Trendline . When I bought it a year ago, the cam belt was replaced. 2 weeks ago the car just wouldn't start after parked for a full day, had to get it transported home and the mechanic that came out to do diagnostics said it's the timing belt/chain and that valves were now bent and it's gonna cost a pretty penny to fix. I don't know about these things so please help me.
1. There was no indication/warning that the belt was going
2. Does the diagnostic pick this up?
3. Where do I start as I don't have faith in the mechanics and I don't have the cash to send it to VW.
4. How do I know when reliable parts are being fitted?
Anxious
Tas

Well diagnostics will show that the bottome end is turning and the cam not. Also it will generally speaking go together with a lot of noise if it failed.
Cam chain almost never breaks but a tensioner can fail and lodge into the chain and make it skip teeth.
What area or where are you based maybe one can recommend a known reliable mechanic for you.
