2.0T Sump Service

Post by YUBEN »

Guys I've been advised to urgently do a sump service and change the pick up sensor.

Has anyone ever had a similar problem?

You only need to worry about that pick up with the AUM motors IIRC.

Are you getting the Oil Sensor warning light on your cluster?

Part number should be: 1J0907660B

Just confirm against your chassis number when you get one from the dealer.

You do not RC unfortunately. It's a problem with basically any motor as it's vulnerable to becoming clogged with anything larger than the gap between the mesh, including carbon grit, sealant, sludged oil, metal shavings and general debris. The TFSI is very prone to this as are most motors depending on how they were maintained/age/mileage.

No warning, the car drives fine. It's just that u was told I'm Saturday that when I start and switch off, there is a noise that can lead to trouble for the oil pump. Unfortunately I cannot describe the sound since to me everything is fine.

The part you've been told to change is the oil level sensor. It's not called an oil pickup sensor.

I highly doubt you'd hear that sensor failing from outside the car during startup :hi: Plug the car into diagnostics and look for faults before you change anything.

Is the car using alot of oil suddenly?
Are you having to top up often?

Who told you to do the sump service?

I only have the car for a month. It has taken a pint so far and I've done just under 2000km.
Morne from Hatfield did diagnostics and didn't pick up anything other than noisy vanos as he described it.

On Saturday I went to Patrick Service Center and they told me about the sump service.

Yes I was gauging from the context of the thread (timing chain tensioner noise, not an oil level low warning). Seems to be some confusion over the usage of the word pickup I guess.

Yeah, so many people call that sensor a pick up. AFAIK the AGU motors don't have them at all, but it varies from audi to audi for some reason

My 2.0T had the infamous piston ring issue before i rebuilt it. The level sensor kept saying fill up 1lt every few days before it failed, so my wife obliged and put oil in, needless to say we drained around 9lt of oil out the car    POS level sensor was faulty

ex do I am unsure as to why you keep saying AGU/AUM. That is 1.8T and has basically NOTHING at all in common with the 2L Tfsi motors which are BWA and variants off. Not all of them has that sensor either and you don't to a sump service for that. You do it for clogging of the oil pump pickup which clogs and specially so with castrol oils which VW dealers use. (used to use)
These engines have a balancer shaft setup and a tensioner which sometimes fail. 1.8T does not have issues there so again different issue different things to look out for.

Did a sump service on my 6R and so glad i did. Everything was filthy. Did full sump service, oil filter, new Liqui Molly Oil, DSG service, DSG filter & fuel filter.

Now just to do rear diff service.

Worth doing, you never know whats been in the motor and good to know.

Rather do it.

If you in JHB or Eastrand, pop by, can do the service if you require.
