DV rev D replacement on Passat TSI, and more questions

Post by AirborneZA »

Hi

What is the best (cheapest) place to buy a new DV for a Passat 2.0 TSi - prefferably rev D ... just installed a Forge spacer and saw that my DV is torn ...

Thanx

Doing the work is fairly easy - got a mate with a panel beating shop and 2 very handy lifts. It's getting the part ... Goldwagen quoted me R699 on a replacement unit, but the oke sounded very unsure when I asked him if it's a Rev D DV .... will probably need to drive out there and check it.

Hasn't someone maybe replaced their stock Rev D unit with an aftermarket unit, and now they use the old one as a small door stop ?? Hehehe .. here's hoping !!

O, and while the car was on the lift, I noticed that this pipe from the intercooler had some oil on it - the one running across the engine below (note: not my car, stole the pic of the interwebs) - could it be as simple as a dodgy clamp or do I need to worry ?? Oil collects at the bottom clamp.

Could be a leaking pipe, clamp issue etc. A little bit of oil in the boost pipes are normal from what i remember.

Reckon I'll change both those clamps just to be sure .... apologies if all these questions have been asked before - got the Passat 2 or 3 months ago, and I'm now going through it to check for faults .... clutch was replaced by dealer just now, I did a oil change the weekend which already made a significant change to the engine feel (10w40), next is the DV rev D replacement, DSG Re-calibrate, BMC drop in filter replacement (I had one of those Simota cone filter jobbies on but not enough plumbing to get in into the wheel well corner left front, so took it off again due to the constant hissing sound) and replacement down pipe, and then ECU tune ... Building my own Passat GTi !!

Little oil in those pipes are normal,..Ash (GW Delarey) will help you with the DV (OEM is Pierburg) of which they sell, easy to replace. Jack car right side wheel, remove wheel and easy to work from there.
Just note these cars use 5w40 (full synthetic)
Also no need to move filter to wheel well,..air gets sucked into Turbo which will heat air up. The idea with Intake and aftermarket filter is to get better air into system,..if you want colder air into intake you need upgrade cooler or WMi.

Hahahahahahaha !! Just phoned Centurion VW Spares department to see how big the price jump is between GW and them ..

ME "Hello Spares ?"
VW "Yes"
ME "Could you give me a quote on a 2010 2.0 TSI Diverter Valve ?"
VW "eeeehhhhhh hold on ...." Hear her talking to the oke in the background .... "Tshepo, what is a diverter valve ???" Some chatting .. gets back to me VW "Is it related to the turbo" .. "Yes, looks like this and that" .... lots of typing - "yes, it's R900"
ME "Thanx - is that the older one with the rubber diaphragm or the new plastic piston type - revision D?"
VW "Hold on" ... talking in background "I don't know - he wants to now the vision type ....." New guy grabs the phone "Sir, what are you looking for"
ME "Revision D DV for 2.0 TSI motor - 2010"
VW "Yes, we the newer version but not in stock ..."
ME "Cool - thanx"

BELLS FOR THE MAN IN THE CORNER !!!!!! Our head office is in New Germany so I can arrange for someone to pick it up form you. Could you send me your contact details please ?

BTW, Forge spacer promptly removed this afternoon, as I am loosing boost due to the faulty DV - it's fine at low revs but as soon as you start shunting, it looses boost thru the spacer which constantly just blows it all out .. nice gimmick but not for me thanx !

Read a couple of the DV/Spacer fitment threads and if I may add my 2 cents - remove the driver side wheel and wheel well cover. It gives you loads more space to work in ... tried fitting my spacer with the stuff in place, was painful. Took it to my mate with car lifts and was easier. Got home, jacked it up, removed the wheel and well cover and back to stock setup in about 30 minutes.
