Mixture adaptation code
Hi guys. Lately I've been having problems with my A3 1.8T. Engine code AGU, same as a golf 4 gti. Engine has been jolting, almost like it's misfiring. It happens randomly, but mostly uphill. I've had the car scanned and I had the code 00561 mixture adaptation : adaptation limit (add) exceeded. I tried Google and followed some possible solutions, namely changing fuel pressure regulator, using a fuel system treatment and replacing the fuel filter, but no luck. Coil packs are fine, spark plugs are fine, even did a compression test, all fine. Is there any shop in Durban that can help me without breaking my wallet? Already dealt with people wanting to charge me, but not fixing my problem. Thanks

Re: Mixture adaptation code
Get it on a dyno and see what it is actually fuelling at. At the same time see what the lambda says in the management and if it agrees to the external one used by the dyno. it could your lambda sensor failling and the system amking it richer and richer based on an incorrect reading. When you take plugs out are they clean or black?

Re: Mixture adaptation code
Spark plugs were a little white. Car is stock. No mods. I was just told that it could be a failing fuel pump. I'll try to get it tested tomorrow

Re: Mixture adaptation code
If the plugs were not black then yes possibly you have a lean situation. Don't bother with fuel pressure regulator. They almost never go wrong. Fuel pump yes. I have had a few of those in in thenlast while with failing pumps so not unlikely.

Re: Mixture adaptation code
Give the guys at TSC Garage a shout. They are located in Springfield and will be able to assist.
AGU motors only have a narrowband labmda, so any lean condition codes will be at part throttle. Possibly a vacuum leak or pre turbo leak.

Re: Mixture adaptation code
I also have a similar issue with my AUM 1.8T.
Sometimes when I floor it, it missfires.
Car is cpi tuned so i will have to go Myan to get a diagnosis after scanning.
Also considering the guys @ TSc, have only heard good things, I'm not sure about fault finding though or what they would charge in the event of them not finding the problem.
Good luck.

I went to tsc. They told me that they want to strip the car to fault find. It's been by them before but they didn't find the problem.

Re: Mixture adaptation code
My car is stock apart from a downpipe, but the misfire can happen under any form of acceleration, Hard or soft and it's very random.P1LAYA-ZN wrote:I also have a similar issue with my AUM 1.8T.

Re: Mixture adaptation code
Before you let anybody do anything to ur car, take panic's advice and get the car on a dyno and see what the afr reading is, let them log the fuel pressure under acceleration, tap in on fuel supply before the fuel rail to see if your fuel pump is okay under acceleration. Also let them log the boost under acceleration. With this 3 things you will be able to diagnose the problem.22irwin.mercure wrote:My car is stock apart from a downpipe, but the misfire can happen under any form of acceleration, Hard or soft and it's very random.P1LAYA-ZN wrote:I also have a similar issue with my AUM 1.8T.

Re: Mixture adaptation code
I wouldn't be surprised if it's simply down to a bad fuel pump or even a partially blocked pickup in the tank.

Re: Mixture adaptation code
I think i found my problem.
A vacuum hose is split. That's probably why i get theses random misfires.
I'm afraid to even phone Audi for a price.
Is there anyone in Durban who can make up these vacuum hoses.
Its on the right of the engine, the pipe coming from the DV that splits in 2 and goes into the Tappet cover and into a longer thinner pipe.

Re: Mixture adaptation code
Just run a vacuum like straight from the dv to the intake manifold. Highly doubt that's causing the issue though.P1LAYA-ZN wrote:I think i found my problem.
