2009 Audi A3 8p 1.8tfsi no more power

Post by JDT25 »

Howzit gents

it's been a while since i posted anything so i thought while i have no more answers for my current situation i will turn to the good people of this forum.

It all started on Monday morning on my way to work when i just put in some fuel from my local Engen. As i am driving in gear and i want to pass a vehicle my car pulls nice and then started jerking then pulls and then jerks again(not like i misfire jerk) all this in the same gear. Before i got to work it disappeared and my car was normal again, so i just thought i will replace the fuel filter this weekend.

But yesterday on my way to home all of a sudden my car feels like it does not boost anymore, you can still hear the turbo spooling and dumping but the power is not there. Later the same evening i took the car for another drive and i can hear this whining sound while the turbo is trying to boost almost like a police siren from a distance not a high pitched whine like some of the A3 do make. and this morning again the same sound happens between 3000rpm and 4000rpm with the car still feeling lazy as hell.

During my attempt to research i found that i could be a couple of things.

1.My turbo is on its way out.
2.I have a major boost leak.
3.It could be a block EGR or CAT.
4.It could be the dump valve leaking.
5.The fuel filter is badly blocked.

So i was wondering if any of you guys would have an answer for me as to what could be the cause of this, or if any of you experienced something similar to this before?

Does the car feel like it is coming onto boost normally then all of a sudden stops boosting? If so could be a DV issue.

Best to get it scanned though as it could be anything

Without seeing the car we can only give you the same answers as what you have aleady listed.
Turbo on it's way out or a leak. Those are basically then two things making the noise you hear.

Not at all it doesn't even feel like it is boosting only when you pass 3000rpm but then again it could be the motor just getting into its optimal rpm's.

Just an update on this post.

I logged my car last night and found that i am only boosting 0.4bar boost max, i dont know if this is a good or a bad sign?

I am glad that my turbo is still boosting so that means i can focus on boost leak, PCV valve or dumpvalve

Do you guys perhaps have anything else that you think i should have a look at?

Thanks for all the help so far :hurray:

Last update to this post.

This weekend i took my car to FR&R (without a booking). We spoke to the guys there, without any hesitation or saying that i have to make a booking first they took my car around the block, when they came back Kieran told me i either have boost leak or diverter valve packed up.

I asked if they would be able to check my DV and on the spot they put my car up and checked my DV. After 10 - 15min Kieran came to me and showed me that my DV had a huge hole in the rubber and said that is my problem. Luckily for me they had stock of the new revision DV, and replaced it on the spot. After everything was done i took my car and it was as good as new :troll:

So i Just want to say a HUGE thank you to the guys from FR&R for the excellent service and you will definitely be seeing me again :hurray: :hurray: :hurray:
