Thanas to the rescue..........Yay!!THANAS wrote:You probably stay 100m from me, send me your cell number in a PM and I'll bring over my digital timing light/lambda sensor/laptop etc etc and we can get it sorted.
Have you checked the polarity on the trigger sensor as this can throw your timing out too?
Is trigger set at rising or falling edge?

Hi all. Sorry I have been a bit busy. Nope still no luck. It just won't fire up. I'll have to take it somewhere.

Do you see RPM on software when you crank the motor? Saw now in previous page you are getting around 300 rpm.
You have checked the crank sensor and it is a magnetic one?
Is Your Dicktator a 60-2 with the Motronic input for the crank sensor? That uses a magnetic sensor.
Did you selected it for 4 cylinder and ignition divide 2? Previous page also mention wasted spark setting selected.
Get some screen shots during cranking and also the ignition setup page. Would be easier for us to try and assist then.

Re: Wiring a Dicktator 60-2 on an AGU engine
I went over and had a look at a few things,
The TPS either isn't wired correctly or the TB is broken, the value decreases with increasing throttle position, but it's also a bit erratic. I changed over to MAP based fuelling as opposed to TPS because that should be the primary load input for a turbo motor.
I first tried known settings which didn't work, I then tried numerous timing settings and fuelling settings but it refused to take. It's getting fuel and spark. I unfortunately didn't have time to investigate further than that.
I suspect that there may be a fuel pressure issue and that the fuel isn't being atomised properly. Without a fuel pressure gauge it's hard to tell. It isn't a simple case of an incorrect setting unfortunately.

Re: Wiring a Dicktator 60-2 on an AGU engine
Do you guys know the history of the engine at all? Ie. was it taken from a running car or was it bought unkown. Perhaps start with a basic cam timing check, compression test, injector test and making sure the coils are Ok?.
Also check that the gap in the trigger wheel does go past the pickuo as it should IE 15 teeth before tdc.

Re: Wiring a Dicktator 60-2 on an AGU engine
It's really something I would need to stand in my garage to fully check all the necessary settings and parameters. I assumed the 15 teeth when I reset the base timing but I didn't and still don't have time to go back and confirm everything you've mentioned unfortunately.
No idea of the history of the motor, hopefully the owner can comment.

Re: Wiring a Dicktator 60-2 on an AGU engine
Hi Guys,
Sorry again for the delay, I don’t get notifications anymore and currently not working on the car coz it is so frustrating. I bought the engine from Mikes place and was assured it is low miles by a friend of a friend who works there. I then had another friend (VW technician) change my timing belt for me while the engine was out, also did oil and filter change. The motor is complete and looks to come out of an accident car. The coils fire strong, I pulled the injectors and fuel rail out one night and fired them with ignition off and they spray a fine mist with good pressure (as per you tube vids) my magnetic crack sensor does pick up. The engine and installation is here -> http://vwclub.co.za/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=167582

And you have YOURSELF checked that the cam timing is correct?.

Re: Wiring a Dicktator 60-2 on an AGU engine
Is head timing not maybe 180 degrees out from crank timing resulting in -2 teeth mark being phased out and you trigger when piston is at BDC? You did say all marks is correct, but worth checking and also check that the cam pulley key is not sheared.
Suggest you put all marks where they should be and remove the trigger sensor and check whether you are around 14 teeth after the -2 teeth on the trigger wheel when cylinder no 1 is at TDC.

Re: Wiring a Dicktator 60-2 on an AGU engine
Hi All,
I haven’t had a chance to work on the car on in a while, the problem is im not that mechanically minded, I can do all the cave man work like installation, welding, all fabrication, gearbox, sideshafts, down pipe, cooling and fueling etc but the ecu and timing makes my head hurt. So are you saying if I had to loosen the cam belt and spin just the cam 1 revolution (360 deg) it will be in a different position than it currently is in?

Re: Wiring a Dicktator 60-2 on an AGU engine
no that will be back in the same place.
That is not what we are asking.
What you need to check is - pull the magnetic pickup, turn the motor by hand and wait for the gap in the 60-2.
now from there you must count 15 teeth and then TDC should come up.

Re: Wiring a Dicktator 60-2 on an AGU engine
Hi all sorry it has been months since I have worked on my car but the good news is that it is running and running great. Took it to a friend’s workshop and they got it going in no time, the crank position sensor and ignition module was wired wrong and a few other things I have forgotten because I am just too excited. The motor is quiet, no smoke and idles smooth on the map that THANAS loaded for me – thanks I have a few things to get finished now – boost pipes/ic, connect the shifter cables and finish the hydraulic clutch conversion. Thanks to all for the great advice and support I really appreciate it.

Re: Wiring a Dicktator 60-2 on an AGU engine
Hi
This is a rather old post, but I have an almost similar issue at this stage.
@Thanas, any change you still have that MAP? I think the start up MAP that the tuner loaded for me does not work lekka.
A mechanic friend of mine will also assist me me soon to check all the basics just incase I made some mistakes.
So excited to start and run again, but still have other areas to attend to, like output flanges (cups), side shaft length, wheel bearings etc.
