6K is a rough estimate, its an amount I have heard it being done for. In JHB you could check with VagSpecCentre, not sure who is a decent VW Indie in KZN area thoughmk2fanatic wrote:dazza wrote:Those tensioners were crap specifically on the 09/10 year model. Very rowdy hard start up. Car will sound like a diesel. The previous tensioners are almost guaranteed to fail unfortunately. There was an engineer who conducted a failure analysis on the Mk6 forums. Very informative.NHB_R wrote:Are there any tell tale signs before it goes?
Just thinking for the guys who want to save the mandelas until they really need to have it replaced with the revised unit?
mk2fanatic wrote:Hi guys, needing some info regarding the changing of timing chain and tensioner on the 2.0tsi . Spoke to the workshop manager at vw Pmb, he says there is no particular time or mileage that the timing chain should be changed, he also said that if i were to change it would cost me in the region of 20k ? is this correct ? I also heard that there was a recall on the timing chain tensioner, any one heard of this? Anyways at 20k im seriously considering changing my car. If anyone has some insight on this please share ....
nope AFAIK.Tander wrote:Would the faulty tensioners apply to the 2.0 TFSi found in the Leon Cupra and S3's? (BWJ motors, 2008 models)

Show me where to get this service done for R4k???
And don't just read it somewhere else and post it here? Have you got any actual experience with this?
You internet mechanics are hilarious.

Think you can drop the subject of the 4k

I think all posts are informative, remember the internet is not always right.
You take what you get as a starting step and then go out and expand your knowledge on a subject with personal experiences.
No need to focus on the one incorrect post (should it be incorrect), it has already been pointed out that it may cost more

It may have inflated a bit, but as stated before, VW will always try and tear you a new one with their labour costs.NHB_R wrote:OOBA wrote:I know enough about my car Hoosier Daddy.

Can't you get Xenon bulbs from Violet Electronics?OOBA wrote:So, parts alone are are R5k to R7k with the various quotes I have got. Labour is roughly 7hours, so work on R10k to be safe. My car booked for Monday, also new brakes, xenon bulbs and a few other bits. R20k on maintenance seems crazy but it must be done!
