Re: 1.8T pre-delete paranoia
Deletes done. Fairly challenging at times but not too hectic. Cursed some of your names at certain points but all worked out ok in the end. No more sai noise
The car also seems to do less stupid things and the dumping sound seems to be sharper/crisper lol.
The conduit was actually a huge PITA to fit lol
Only had a collosal F up with fitting the valve cover gasket but will get that sorted another time.
No CEL's or codes popping up so far.
Also managed to find the source of a random check oil light that popped up last week, even though the oil was full. The entire dipstick amd funnel was destroyed, it just broke into pieces. Replaced with barons parts, would like to source an aluminium set though.

Re: 1.8T pre-delete paranoia
Now just another two years and you can get a remap xD
Also, just a note, THANAS does not have resistors BUT he does have the N249 and N112 plugged in with no hoses attached to them, they're just cable tied out of the way, essentially the same as resistoring.

Re: 1.8T pre-delete paranoia
lol, well hopefully the wait wont be that long. There are a few cosmetic things i need to get sorted before sw though.
As for my colossal F up I had with the tappet cover...
When i eventually got the tappet cover off, I realized that the gasket I had was completely wrong, not even near the one i needed (Thanks GW)
Had no choice but to re-fit the old gasket with some sealant. Cleaned up the cover and re-fitted. Then used my trustee Midas torque wrench set to 10nm.
8 of the 9 nuts tightened perfectly, last one snapped the stud before it made the clicking sound
I've been checking and no oil seems to be leaking out of the cover for now.
So now I need to have the stud issue fixed and get the proper gasket fitted at the same time
Does anyone have details to how one of these studs would be replaced?

Re: 1.8T pre-delete paranoia
Did it snap at the base of the stud or closer to where the nut would sit?
If at the top, remove the tappet cover and try turn it out with pliers or weld onto it and turn it out. If it sheared at the base it will have to be drilled out/helicoiled, get a thread guy out there for about R250. I have a guy I use quite often if you want his number.

Re: 1.8T pre-delete paranoia
It snapped closer to the top so should be able to turn it out. I'm not keen on opening up again. Going to leave the gasket job to a pro to do while he services the car. I assume I can just take the broken stud to Bolt It and get a replacement? Unless anyone her knows the details of the studs? Also, would it not be better to just replace all the studs with bolts instead? Its strange to me how easily that thing snapped.THANAS wrote:Did it snap at the base of the stud or closer to where the nut would sit?

Re: 1.8T pre-delete paranoia
Dude like i said in the torque wrench thread. The midas one does overtorque on the lower settings. I would nout use it under 40nm.

Re: 1.8T pre-delete paranoia
They snap because they get stretched by being over tightened by meat fisted gorillas.
Joke
The studs are mild steel therefore its not uncommon to break them. I wouldn't panic as even pro mackies do it on a regular basis.

What about replacing them with stronger bolts with the same thread pattern?

Yeah, I usually tighten them using the screwdriver type socket tool with a 10mm socket attachment, you don't need much more than that.
