So apparently Mayfair gearbox has re-conned boxes for like R4800. Need to phone them and check if they got the exact gearbox or perhaps try going 02J as ive heard its a stronger box!

not sure, Probably a bit shorter with a long 6th gear.

Its probably the same as the 6 speed gearbox in the G4 GTI like Richards kar.

Noticed this morning that while the gearbox and engine is cold and i pull away hard then i dont get the same whine.

Seems that it only starts when the gearbox oil has warmed up and i give it a bit. This morning i drove to work like a granny and found that even almost at work it doesnt sound as bad as when i floor it at every robot from home to work and the gearbox takes some strain then it starts making the noise bad.

Im really starting to wonder if its the turbo or if its the gearbox...The turbo doesnt sound normal

The whine is so bad at times it sounds like ive got one massive supercharger under the hood!

i only had my gbox flushed once before as per bullitin for syncros then the syncros fixed as the flush didnt fix it. that was over 120k ago!

Nah wont say i fiddle too much, since owning the car i have done an oil change on the gearbox twice.

I remember racing someone some time ago an January i think and as i hooked second i missed and scratched the gear badly and im thinking that it started from then on...Perhaps hurt something.

Yesterday it was really bad, on the high way on my way home got it all the way to 4th gear and then 5th its gone but the turbo sounded different.

Whats the chances of the turbo making this noise?

I'm thinking turbo? My car has DP and you can hear that turbo spooling. Not as loud as that but its a fweeeeeeep sound. 1st and second you hear it more up until about 3000 rpm. If it was your box it should do it through the rev range.

If that is the case and its turbo then im actually glad as the gearbox is flippen expensive.

If i need turbo then ill just get K04-001 as a replacement because sadly i dont have cash for BT now.

There is a K04-001 for sale for R2k...
