Carbon Cleaning

Post by Yakuza Racer »

So who has had it done and was it really worth it on the TSi and FSi motors?

im looking into getting it done and by the looks of the pics im sure cleaning off all that kak from the valves would be a good thing, but damage to the valve or any negative effects?

Have heard stories of guys getting up to 15hp extra once clean.

Also improves economy. Can't think of anything negative unless put back incorrectly.

Yeah, I have even seen some guys who has less than 100k km's and it looks awful.

Carbon Doctor charges around 2.5k to get this done and they replace injector seals, all the gaskets etc etc.

George Smooth did mention something about opening up a CPT shop.

Not sure if that materialized or not.

Meant to quote your post. This build up is common on Direct Injection motors. On a regular port injection motor (such as a 2.0 8v or even a 1.4 Citigolf motor) you really don't have much to worry about.

Most second or third generation direct injection motors have an additional injector to try and curb the issue from what I have heard...

Depends what TSI, there were TSI's as early as the MkV but with VW not being able to stick to any sort of logical naming convention, recent FSi's are also TSI's, so really **** knows :???: Not sure if modern direct injection VAG motors have the additional injector setup?

The boxer motor on the 86 (yes yes you can all laugh at how "slow" it is) has both port and direct injection

I don't think that they did, the MkVI GTi (EA113?) was an adaptation of the MkV GTi (EA888?) motor and not a total redesign. Proves my point though, the original TSI was a twincharged engine, the FSi was an N/A and the turbo FSi was TFSi or FSi T. Now, none of it makes sense...
