G6 1.4 TSI, down pipe issues.

Post by Abdullah Ebrahim »

Hi all,

My first post lol. :hurray:

I am one of the only people who seems to be doing upgrades on their 1.4TSI.
I have added an exhaust pipe(obviously with a down pipe to remove cat).

now my problem is that my exhaust sensor light does not want to stay off.
the error code is simply "catalytic converter"
after turning it off at the dealer and at a tuning shop.

can anyone help with some advise as to why it keeps coming back?

Regards
Abdullah

It comes back because there is no CAT anymore you will need software to override the engine light or a cat fooler(mini cat)

If you don't want/have software
http://www.42draftdesigns.com/O2-Sensor ... p_306.html
When an aftermarket high-flow catalytic converter is used on a late model car its common to see a CEL (Check Engine Light) come and go. This CEL is usually backed by a fault code that indicates a failed cat. If your new cat is NEW, how could it have failed? Behind the scenes, the factory ECU is comparing the readings from a pair of oxygen sensors to measure the effectiveness of the cat. When a high-flow cat is used the exhaust gases are able to pass by the cat at a much faster rate, disrupting the readings. Our o2 sensor spacer retracts the second oxygen sensor from the direct flow of gases, restoring the balance that the ECU requires when using a high-flow cat.
works on my G6 GTi

Cool thanks guys.

what if I have taken it to a tuning shop to re-map the ECU. and it still comes back?
Also can the sensors make a difference? I have heard of dud sensors.
with regards to the mini cat, won't that be defeating the purpose of taking it out in the first place?
will the style of the downpipe make a difference? my downpipe is funny lol (its not stainless steel and it doesn't look like very professional)

I only ask because shortly after putting the exhaust and a cold air induction. my fuel pressure sensor was poped!
any help with that?

 the mini cat is the 'spacer' that kev0 is talking about. If the light was not on before you installed the new downpipe but on after you installed it how can it be the sensors? If they were damaged upon fitment then yes but the cat is removed so the answer is quite easy.

Dis you Manage to fix the issue?

I have intake, decat dp and stage2 software done.

Before software, my car started to misfire in acceleration. I did software hoping to fix that problem but it did not, enjoying the power from the little 1.4 now though.!

I still have the misfire, no error codes on eu. You had any misfiring issues on yours?

Hi,

Done the exact same to my golf 6 1.4 tsi , emptied the cat housing and then was left with a check engine light and some serious misfires, i bought a mini cat for R500 and installed it on the rear 02 sensor, no misfire or check engine lights anymore :) the only thing that i experience now is a small backfire but not allways, and the smell of petrol is a bit hectic but can be dealt with. I've connected the OBD eleven and run a diagnostic on it, sometimes it generates system to rich at idle, but does not cause any issues :) hope this info can help someone.

Enjoy :)
