MK2 2L ADY Carb cold Start Issue

Post by Hannes83 »

Hi Guys.

Need some help please.

I have been driving my MK2 for about 13 Years and this is a first for me.
This winter is the first time when my Car does not want to start when Cold.
Battery drains (using a 1.9 TDi Battery 652) when crancking and Refuses to start.
Will get an occational false start but nothing.

Al though the car will push start and idle rough until engine is up to temp and then run better.
No Problems in the Afternoon starts at first turn of the key.

Im ruling out Faulty Battery as the TDi Starts with same Battery no Problem.
and yes im using the Choke to start car.

Any ideas where to start looking?
thanks all

Howzit Hannes, where are you based?

I would be willing to have a look at the car and perhaps help you find a solution.

Tuned right VW carb motors barely need the choke to start even on the coldest days.

I'm in the East Rand, if that suits you PM me and get my number.

Vacuum leak on carb? Check that secondary stage butterfly is fully closed when motor and ignition is off. When the secondaty butterfly is not fully closed it will have similar symptons as a vacuum leak when cranking to start.
