Mk1 carb to mpi conversion trasnponder

Post by Mantrix »

Hi

The conversation from 2003 citi golf carb 1.4 to 1.4i is done but now my computer box is closed and I can't find the plug for the transponder. How do I go about getting it to work?

Is there a plug hidden in the loom perhaps?

I have the chip in the key already so it's just picking up the signal from the chip I'm struggling with. The car will swing and sound as if it wants to idle but just dies again.

Do you have the pickup on the ignition barrel?

Great, that then runs to a black/brown control box, and then I believe that is wired to the TCI unit somewhere.

I think it might also be wired into the ignition coil.

Are the transponder keys and computer box from the same donor car?
I.E. the keys are already coded to the ECU?

Yes it all comes from the same car. I noticed my pickup goes into to loom so I have cut it open and trace it

Quick question should the transponder be wired to the ecu? The loom for the ecu is separate from the cars original loom so the tci or control box won't have access to the ecu.

So I stand to be corrected, but I am sure the transponder pickup sends a signal to the ECU, and if that matches, the ECU sends a signal to the TCI/Ignition coil to allow spark etc to work.

Now if you want the transponder keys to work correctly this will need to get sorted. It might ultimately be easier to unlock the ECU so that the transponder portion isn't a concern and then maybe fit an aftermarket Alarm and immobiliser.
