Keihin carb idle cut off valve

Post by Kyle28rsa »

Hi guys.

So i have a 1983 golf 1 1.6 with a keihin carb. Noticed the idling cut off valve was not connected, connected it but it popped the fuse twice. So i think its dead. Pulled it out and noticed the pin was cut off. Probably a quick fix. Does this have any affect on fuel consumption (for instance when sitting in traffic)

Also where can i find a replacement part, as the one at goldwagen is not the same. Please see pic for reference ImageImage

The cut off switch is only used when switching off the engine. If your car switches off normally and does not pre ignite or keep running on then just ignore it
Current:

2006 Citi Golf 2E, Dictator, 4-2-1

Ex:
2003 Audi A3 1.8t, Thanas Tuned, FMIC, coilies, DP and exhaust
2007 Citi golf. ADY with Spitronics 60-2, estas 282, 4-2-1, coilies

You have the early carb. I had the same originally on my old Citi. The solenoid is NLA. Only solution is another carb.

The jetting on the replacement carbs is a little better than the older ones when it comes to economy, my biggest motivation to change the carb would be to get rid of 40 years of wear and tear and it's associated air leaks.

And that answered my next question. Thanks missioner. Because i bought a carb kit, rebuilt the carb. Jets showed the same size which was 110 primary and 150 secondary. But then carb didn want to idle without choke. Going to put all old jets back in and see if it will work again

Which carb would you recommend? The replacement W.A.G from goldwagen or a 2nd hand one from a new spec

The replacement carbs are fine.

Often I have found the second hand carbs to be the same or worse than what is on the car. So I won't recommend one. Also as it "OEM" the sellers get stupid with the pricing.

I have some mods that I do to the carb to reduce its complexity and help a little with the performance.

Will have a look into it and get a replacement one, even if its more expensive. Better than struggling all the time with this old one.

Which type of mods are you doing to make things abit easier

My secret. If you bring the car and the carb to my house you can find out.
