Vw Velociti 1.4i - Rev Counter

Post by BlakeBenton »

Hi Guys,

Im new to this forum and wanted some advice please.

My rev counter stopped working 2 days ago It had been playing up for awhile then worked perfectly fine. Now its completely dead. When i turn the ignition on before starting the car it does pull up to zero however when starting the car It jumps to about 500rpm and falls back to zero. I have checked and replaced the two main fuses next to the battery. is there anyhting else that can causing this? Soemtimes if the car is driven for awhile and I use the indicators the rev counter jumps up and down to when the turning signal is on, not all the time tho.

I noticed there are two plugs ontop on the gearbox near the clutch cable - would any of these 2 have somthign to do with it?

Thank you in advance

no the switches on the gearbox has nothing to do with it. rev counter is driven from the hall generator via the boardnetz box. so can be the boardntz or the cluster or a broken wire somewhere

Thank you for your response. How does one test the 'boardnetz box or cluster'? Its now working perfectly fine again as from Yesterday.

It has to be a intermittent fauly somewhere

Could it be possibly be a bad earth as well?

Hi did you find a solution to this problem, I have the same issue, oil light flashes with the buzzer sound and rev counter drops to zero and then car will lose power and switch off while driving.
