Vw Golf 1 Distributor
Good day guys, I would like to know whether a distributor can cause a whining noise. The car is a 2.0 8v mk1. The distributor shaft is scored and also has deep lines. Any assistance will be helpful. Also how can I upload a pic?

Re: Vw Golf 1 Distributor
No bearings in there, so maybe sleeve tolerances?
Had it on my '78 Escort Mk2 - timing was fluctuating.
Is the scoring in the cap area (height) of the shaft, or below the dizzy, in the engine?
Something loose and flapping in the cap maybe, scoring those lines?
Friction from a loose item or wire in there could produce the whine?
Just guessing here...

When a car tailgates me, i slow down - then floor it and give them a cloud of diesel smoke to choke on

You should get about 570 km out of a tank in a 1.3 chico if you drive very very nicely. I found my old one was not worth it for the little power you got for your fuel.

Re: Vw Golf 1 Distributor
Hi guys, can a distributor cause my module to get warm? My ignition coil/module gets warm and the car switches off, starts again if I wait like 5sec but switches off again after like a few sec of idling?

I think you may have other issues.Rowen8v wrote:Hi guys, can a distributor cause my module to get warm? My ignition coil/module gets warm and the car switches off, starts again if I wait like 5sec but switches off again after like a few sec of idling?
Check the alternator charge rate with a volt meter. Anything over 14V is High and a problem. This could be the reason the module is getting hot. Could also be a dud module. The hall sensor in the dizzy can't cause the problem, it doesn't function that way. It only provides a signal between 0 and 5V for the module to trigger the coil at the correct time.
Check the coil lead to the distributor that it's not sparking down to the wires coming from the TCI module.

Re: Vw Golf 1 Distributor
Hi, so I got the coil problem sorted, I think. It was one of the pins of a wire coming from the coil on the distributor plug that wasn't making contact properly, since then my car hasn't cut out coz of a hot coil.
Now I have the problem where after a small while of driving it feels like a misfire, when I give petrol there's no power also, it will Rev up, but like a car that has a misfire, I checked my plugs and plug wires one at time for spark, and unplugged one injector at a time to see if it's supplying fuel, all seems to be working, timing was set dead on at the crank, cam and dizzy. At this point I'm clueless
