2L 8V (2e long block) conversion

Post by Mishay99 »

Hi guys

I'm doing "that" conversion on my 1.4 Velo . I know these questions have been asked before but given the previous dates I just wanted to know the lasted suggestions with dropping a 2L 8v motor in a mk1 . I also want to know suggestions about what pistons to use , should I touch the valves , the crank , etc ?

If I'm looking to get some decent power from it N/A (around the 110 - 130 kw ) what mods should I consider ? Head work and where to do it, what Cams that also allow daily use , exhaust ?

Thanking you In advance for your feedback !

When i did "that" conversion back in 2011, I fitted a AGG motor in my 1.4i .com.

Had a branch and 50-57mm Powerflow, PoloCup ecu, UNIQ, 282 Estas cam, and ported head, no big valve conversion...that would've been the next step if I didn't sell.

Made 111kw 212nm on KSD's dyno and 112kw 215nm on Mace's dyno. Time at Killarney's Street2Strip was a consistent 14.7

Was my daily and never had any issues at all. Run pretty well.

Nice ! Looking for something similar who did the head work ?
I've delegated with Gerrard from 8V performance , quoted around 4.5 K for the labour , engineering , flowing and chemical cleaning excluding the cam , lifters etc .

I've used Fastcar in Pinetown not so long ago.

His labour prices are not bad at all- R1800 to freshen up the bottom end (new rings, bearings & conrod bolts), R2860 to sort the headwork out & R1500 to remove head and put back

With a very simple setup (stock 8v bottom end, ported & flowed head, 288 Estas) I made 111wkw & 210wnm- Not sure on the time I would tun just as yet but I would go into the 14 sec bracket easily
2000 Golf 1 Chico- CRANKCASE [Std 2.0 bottom end, head gas flowed, ported & chopped by Fastcar, 288 Estas Billet, 4-2-1 43mm Brospeed Branch, 50mm-57mm-63mm Exhaust] + THE PART (2B1 speacials) -Final power @ Autotrix 111wkw & 210wnm

2007 Velociti- WHITEWALKER [Std 2.0 bottom end, head gas flowed, ported, valve swirled, 276 Estas, 4-2-1 Branch, 57mm piping from front to back]

Alert Engine Parts sell the KS pistons. Had them in my mk1 a few years ago.
