Tell the 300kg worth of people to walk = instant better fuel economy.

That fuel usage is pretty normal for that car.

I think you must get the fiesta back. 1.3 golf were never known for good economy.

I fitted a GW carb onto my Mk 1 GTS (1600) when the old Pierburg Solex started to give troubles, and I never really got any good fuel economy out of the GW carb. It's a Keihin replica.
My Fox (also a 1600) with the genuine Keihin carb will easily get more than 12 km / l at 110 km/h - probably closer to 13 or even 14.

The point being: I wonder whether the GW carbs are ever jetted and set-up correctly.

Get the golf on a dyno with an old school tuner thatbstil knows how jettting works and see what the fuelling looks like and get it set. They come with a generic set for sea level jet size in which is too rich for our 1600m altitude.

For starters you could go back to the standard 13" wheels and width.

On a "lighter" note...
1-Remove all unwhanred/not requiered items from the car.
2- Chow down less rotti's and incourage your friends to do so aswell
3-Change the airodinamic properties of a face brick...

On a more "constructive" note....
Ad some more power to the car, might pull it's weight around better.

No an aggressive cam will only make it worse.
But you will never ever ever get 18km/l in a citi golf 1.3 unless you do it alone at 60km/h. Just not realistic foe them. Maybe 1-3 km/ l better than currently but that is about it.

Besides jetting, timing may also be a contributing factor. On the Reef, I can run my Fox quite advanced (which is more efficient), but when I use that setting at the coast, it pings horribly, even with 95 octane.
The old-school tuner that Panic recommended seeing, should be able to sort that out easily.

Sorry guys I'm from Vanderbijlpark and will use the golf to travel to bryanston about 7 days a month(rest of the days travel with lift club. and don't want to put km on my other newer car. bought the golf to use for lift club as its cheap and easy to maintain and service. but got the surprise of a lifetime with fuel this week alone. doing 228 km a day and costs me R350 a day fuel alone

Presumably you are also running a 4 speed gearbox, which should increase revs to about 4000 r/min at 110 km/h, also compounding the problem.

When I changed the carb on my Citi with a GW carb, the size of the (secondary?) jet was far larger than required and was modified by a knowledgeable tuner.

As was suggested above, best would be to get the cars timing and carb set up looked at, I saw a 10% decrease in consumption.

If there's one thing my TDI has taught me, it's that consumption figures only tell part of the story.

The 1300 Citi doesn't need a new turbo every 120k-odd km, or new/recon injectors at x-thousands per shot, it won't wear down its camshaft, etc. etc. - you can happily gooi in the cheapest 20W-50 mineral oil and just keep going, perhaps the odd (cheap) timing belt change.
