V5 ignition timing

Post by Gummi »

Hey gents, a quick question, how does the v5 AGZ get its ignition timing or spark timing? Is it from a cam postiion sensor or from the crank? According to Autodata it sits rear right of the engine. But I checked and cannot find it there.

Crank.

No 2 in this picture is the 60-2 toothed gear. The pickup sits in the block almost directly behind the oil cooler/heat exchanger on the front of the bolck down low

Thanx panic. So this would work exactly the same as the camshaft position sensor? Retarding/advancing ignition timing as needed? My reason for asking is, when the car is hot, i get a slight ping low down in the rev range, and in almost all gears. Kinda like a 1300 Tazz going up a hill and you try to accelerate :-)

Well you should check if there is not an issue with the knock sensors then. Are you SURE SURE it is detonation , not some rattle...
Are you at least using 95 octane fuel?

Hi

Definately not a rattle. Im using 95 octane with the car yes. One day she is a beast, and the next she is a bit lazy. I will have a look at the knock sensors. Its wierd though, because autodata shows this vehicle, exact model and year should have a cam position sensor. Autodata also shows 2 knock sensors, one in front and the other at the rear. i will check tomorrow evening and let you know.

Thanx for the info and advice sir, its most appreciated

Cam posistion sensor sensor is used in conjunction with the crank sensor to determine fuelling order. Ie. Full sequential injection. It has no bearing on ignition timing.....
