Losing a map ?

Post by P1LAYA-ZN »

Good day gents,

So, my Mk1 Jetta Gli has been parked for 4 years in my garage, after the fuel pump failed and since it was my 3rd car I never got around to sorting it out until now.
Anyways, after replacing the pump and doing the service, etc the car started up fine, no issues.
My question is, would it lose the map parked for that long, the battery even ran flat.
How would I be able to tell ?

did it start? If yes - no lost map.
if the map was lost it would not start.

Thanks Panic.
I did not know this.
I asked cos many of my friends said it would lose the map if you allow the battery to run flat.
I didn't drive it yet so cant really say if its running the same.
Although, I think I will need to drain out all that old fuel before I drive it around.

Agree with Panic
If the car started fine and idled as it shoud then put in some fresh fuel after replacing the petrol as well then drive the car.
Many of my friends with Gotech system had that issue of losing maps, when the car stood long and the battery died.
I guess you are the lucky one.

*Side Note*
I thought my car suffered by standing for 8 months and your car stood for a whole 4 years, guess it helps to have another car as a form of transport.

I had a base model Gotech system in the Jetta years ago and it never lost a map. Even standing for 5 months with the battery disconnected, it still kept the map.

I have heard of maps dissappearing from all sorts of management systems, not just Gotech.

Doubt would loose a map, more likely have a spike in the map, never lost a map when I ran votes, but had 4 spikes on my fuel map
