Rather buy an UP.

Like seriously, go and look at the build quality. I think the old Uno's were built better.

I'm the biggest Renault fan but the KWID is just terrible in every sense.

as suggest above, the UP is a million times better.

Drive an UP/Picanto and compare it (in any way) to the KWID and Datsun Dead. You'll realise how poorly made the latter are.

WRT KWIDS, there were no parts in the country so RENSA had to import KWIDS for stripping if something broke, not sure if they've sorted their parts woes out since.

Had a 2008 picanto a while back and frugal as heck. Also did not have any problems with the car, electronic aircon and all.Mostly forgot to put petrol in it.

The up is a nice car but a bit on the expencive side new. Looking at around R130k mark as i want to buy 2×

Parts availability is a issue with Renault SA, I would stay clear. A friend runs a workshop and sourcing Renault parts is always a uphill battle, both second hand parts and from the OEM.

Renault build some awesome cars though, went around Kyalami in the new Megane RS and it was a blast, could not fault the performance.

KIA is a much better option, I like the the picanto's alot!

If your budget is R130, then I would still look at a demo/ used Picanto or UP.

You can easily pick up a Picanto with less than 10k on the clock within your budget.

Kwid parts are still an issue, as an example not a single set of front brake pads available anywhere in the country last time we checked (+-2 weeks ago-i work for a big spares wholesaler), not at dealerships and not yet available from the aftermarket.

So when the KWIDs were introduced into the market, i was interested in one as i needed a daily that could also fulfill the daily needs and to also move my family around as we have 1 baby currently. So I did further research on it and for as much what it was created for, I would rather just drive my Uno until something within budget popped up.

Eventually a Toyota Auris fell on my hands, got it on 159xxxkm in April 2018 and to date i have put on 24xxx with no fault whatsoever.

So yes, presently the KWID is scratched out of my list as we are looking at getting the SO a either a KIA Picanto/ Hyndai Grang i10 as their reviews have impressed me plus their better build.

Interestingly i saw one at a mall with an aftermarket 3 nuts aftermarket wheels on Size 14'. I am not sure if maybe Kia has a deal with a rim shop or the owner for those rims somewhere.

Oddly there is just soo many of them on the road and people continue buying them.

You can buy them from some dealerships with bigger wheels. I know are few are in for repairs because of bent rear axles...

Faaaark sakes.

Never thaught they are this bad. Did see one with 17" on the other day. Looked like it had some jordans on, not sure how they did it though, maybe some wheel adapters. With a ncap rating of 2.3 i'd rather buy one car of the same vallue as two small ones. Maybe a double cab or suv......

You can buy very nice second hand cars for the price of a renault kwid. Poeple only buy them becuase
1) they are cheap
2) they still believe the new car is better thing
3) maybe some attractive warranty/maintenance options

I'd MUCH MUCH rather drive my much older much safer much more comfortable much faster much better braked old audi that I paid much less for than a new kwid.

The warranty is quite comprehensive. It comes with the Renault standard 150 000km/5 year warranty. IIRC there's a service plan included too.

Still a POS.

Also easier to finance a new car with a balloon payment, which tempts loads of people away from buying used.
