Performance mods on 1.6 Polo
Good day all,
Have a question for all the tuners here on the forum.
Where is the best place to start of for performance mods on a 1.6 fuel injected polo?
I have already done software and planning a branch from autowerks with a stainless free flow from powerflo.
What else can be done that are the cheaper alternatives to start off with to gain some power?
I am not planning on going the turbo route as I rather want a normally aspirated motor the car came with making decent power while still being reliable.
Any advice will be appreciated guys.

Re: Performance mods on 1.6 Polo
Once , Software, Branch, exhaust , intake , theres not much else you can do without opening the motor - At this point things get expensive and not worth the money vs gains hence everyone suggest turbo.
you at high altitude, driving down to the coast is a performance mod.

Re: Performance mods on 1.6 Polo
Same as the polo 6R just the sedan version.
listed on vw's ipartner program as 6S not a 6R so making the assumption its because its a sedan not a hatchback.
Seems I am the only one on here trying to mod a new facelift sedan or a sedan in fact I must probably be insane
This was supposed to be the family car but it looked so plain and boring, so I decided to put mags on then to drop it then to do software and so we go on and the idea of a family car has dissapeared

Interesting, I Googled and found references to Polo Vivo's being labelled as 6S, I never knew there were different designations for sedan versions.PoloB wrote: ↑Tue Oct 16, 2018 3:28 pmSame as the polo 6R just the sedan version.

Re: Performance mods on 1.6 Polo
I am willing to open up the motor and do things like cams etc... but not for a minimal gain of 2-3kw then its a waste of money.
I heard rumors that with the autowerks branch and a freeflow you are looking at gains of 13kw? This sounds very optimistic or could this be true?
It would probably @ the flywheel then if its that much?

Re: Performance mods on 1.6 Polo
Yeah Autowerks did some R&D on these 16 valve motors, Flowed/ported the head and managed to get good power out of it(+-100kw atw out of the 1.6 AFAIK). That thread is somewhere here on the forum
But yes, you one of a handful trying to mod these motors

100kw plus at the wheels??????
Do you perhaps have the link to that thread?
Might condsider going turbo but will have to save up a lot of pennies for that but then again then it would be a one of a kind in my opinion only turbo'ed sedan.
I see that you get a Sedan GT version in the uk that has a tsi motor. That would have been a great starting platform if we only got it here in SA

Apologies , it was 100kw ATF. Lots of revving for that power

Re: Performance mods on 1.6 Polo
Got a quote from Rob Green about two year back on a stainless zorst and stage 2. Quoted me about 12 k just for the pipe. This would be a propper built, mandrell bent, tig welded, stainless pipe but did not see the use in price vs performance gain.PoloB wrote:Good day all,

A branch from wildcat on the standard zorst worked wonders on mine without the bleeding of ears effect on the open road.

Re: Performance mods on 1.6 Polo
Good day
I need a bit of help, I saw the 1.6 performance post and I was like this is the page for me. So I've got a 1.6 polo vivo GT, I've done a 4-1 exhaust system (60 mm) from powerflow and then the dude that had the car before me has done the performance box at the back. I have a cold air induction as well. I want to do more to the car, I don't want to open the motor and I definitely do not want to do software because I would be spending R3500 on maybe just maybe getting 8kw at an extra 20nm. I'm thinking about doing throttles, I would like to know your guys opinions on this. I'm going to see Koessie* (not sure if I spelt his name right )

Re: Performance mods on 1.6 Polo
Sell it and buy a Polo GTI or do a motor swop to something with a bigger capacity, it will probably work out cheaper...
There is no way of increasing power and torque on those things without spending massive money on minimal gains.

Yes, Autowerks did awesome work and made impressive gains, but what will all of that cost the normal dude who wants those kinds of gains?

Re: Performance mods on 1.6 Polo
Thanks for the advice gents really appreciate, I'm actually considering just waiting it out to trade it in for a polo 1.4 GTI (software, downpipe and induction). All I want my GT to do is sit with a vtec yes I know I know it's a hopeless thought without spending big bucks but it would be cool to make a b16 look bad and where I'm from b16 and a b20 is very common (I'm from strandfontein, Cpt). The thing that annoys me is that I can't sit with a 1.6 velocity
