VW mk1 1.4i cams change

Post by Pauly »

Hi Gents

I was wondering if I could get advice on putting on other cams in my 1.4i. I have a G cam but was wondering if it won't be beneficial to rather go 268 instead or even 272? If so where can I get these cams for a good price?

I have a 50mil power flow on as well, but just want some kick. So do I put the G cam on or nah?

Thanks in advance

you can go as high as a 272 but then you have to assist the fuelling with a piggyback.

Thanks I appreciate it.

Wont a 268 cam then work much better? I've heard that the 272 has a lot of flat spots and it kicks in late.
And regarding the G cam, is it even worth it to put it in?

G cam is very torquey down low, probably the most perfect cam for daily use on smaller engines IMO

Hi guys

So I put a 272 cam in my 1.4i MP9, it came out of a R-line.
The car idles under 1000RPM and would like to get it back to 1000RPM because when it idles it just keeps searching the whole time. I have already checked the timing and I've turned the distributor and it has stopped therefore meaning I can't turn it further to bump up the revs.

Can anyone help me with this? Do I need to go tune it? I didn't put a veneer pulley on either so I just want to know what I can do to get my idle back to 1000rpm.

Thanks in advance gents.

You can't just keep turning the timing. There is a point where the mp9 and the engine gets very unhappy with that. Hunting idling is something you live with with a longer duration cam. It's that swings and roundabouts thing.
Gain one place, lose in another. Hence why I ALWAYS say that cam duration is a personal thing. One person like x and another likes Y.

Take a tiny drill and make a hole in the butterfly. Start at like 1 mm and work your way up. It helps them idle on a longer cam.
