Any one fitted a5 cylinder to citi golf?

Post by Dub rox »

Hey guys. Been pondering on this for a while and was wondering if anyone attempted or tried to attempt this sort of mod before. If the space in the bay allows this would be a great performing, sounding citi golf. Any advice and input on this would be of great help.

One of the old forum members did, but it didn't work as the driveshaft angles kills the cv's in no time...

There should be some way? Maybe with the combi box and mounting the engine longitudinally........

There's a guy in dbn who has an s3 setup in a golf 1..
The 4wd setup there allows him to run pass rs3's.

Don't know the owner or the specs of this car, just saw it running

5cyl (AAN) style in mk1 using the 020 box makes the left sideshaft very short. It ate cv's at an alarming rate. Turning it longtudinally does not fit unless you are willing to extend the nose somewhow and that was quite beyond anything I wanted to do or ever will want to do.
So for the sound only it simply is not worth the trouble.
Vr5 might be a better solution.
Again the reasoning behind it is a little iffy othr than the uniqueness thing. There are plenty 4cyl engines that will easily match them in HP.

Bought one with it in. We tried a lot of stuff to make the left inner cv last. just didn't. He eventually sold it because of that.

Was planning on doing a nose job or mid- mount, just not sure wich one yet. Guess it all depends on how much the nose will have to be extended.

I want something unique and love the sound of the 5 pod. I am also concidering the 2jz and rb26 aswell as the ej25 all for the uniqueness as i want to attempt something new and boldly go were no one has gone before.

The car would not be a dayly drive but will have to be relyable and a strong build.

You will have to come up with a really unique idea to boldy go where no one has gone before as almost anything and everything has been done to a MkI Golf.

Should have said " and done it succesfully"

I also did some resurch on electric conversions and decided to abandon the idea for the insane price tag that would acompany this.

If insane price tags scare you then I can’t see how you’d want to do a 2JZ or RB26 setup properly on a Mk1

Lmfao Image The electic part of this conversation was actually concidered for the power delivery they give, not to speak about the independance aspect of it as i also concidered a solar charging station to accompany the build.

Back wheel drive conversions will suit the above motors way better, sometime ago there was a red Caddy with a 7m turbo real wheel setup running at ODI.

Principal might be the same when doing a real wheel drive setup on a MK1, it will have to a be complete relocation of the firewall and floor pan to accommodate everything.

Motor about R30k. GearboxR10k. Management R10k. Sodimication, mounts, sutpension, brakes, wireing etc R50-60k. All and all around R100k.

Electric wise the motor alone is about R100k not to speak of controllers and correct batteries and inport costs as our lovely country is not so advanced so we can source all the propper parts and accesories locally.

The mid-mount was also my first choice for the weight distribution and space for the motor and gearbox part but there is also a space concideration to in mind as the front seats might be to far forward.
